Wisdom teeth removal..pain!?

On Monday I had 2 impacted (bottoms) and 2 erupted wisdom teeth pulled. It's friday and i'm still having moderate pain. I take 2 600 mg ibuprofen every six hours but I'm having aching pain before the six hours are up. I went back after I had the surgery and I had infection on one side but i'm taking penicillin for that. Is this pain normal? should I take 1 ibuprofen every 4 hours? On the label the dentist has me taking just 1 every six hours...I would die. Help

Wisdom teeth removal..pain!?
You need to get a stronger pain med from your dentist/oral surgeon. I remember wen my two bottom wisdom teeth were removed. I was out for te entire procedure, and my mom tried for half an hr. to wake me. Then I went to my brother's house and drooled blood all over his white satin sheets. It was very uncomfortable, but the pain med that was prescribed to me made it bearable. It certainly wasn't ibuprofen! That stuff is a joke. Don't worry about doing anything but resting and getting better. Stay in bed, and chill.
Reply:If you feel the pain is abnormal, consult your doctor. It could be an indication of infection, which can lead to very serious issues. Also, if you feel your doctor is not doing enough or taking you seriously, by all means consult another doctor, it is your well being at stake!
Reply:If you haven't already talked to your dentist about this, you should.

Sounds like a classic case of dry socket to me.
Reply:You may have what they call a dry socket. That's a painful condition following a tooth extraction caused by a blood clot that does not properly fill the empty socket, leaving the bone underneath exposed to air and food.

I had one of those and had to go back to the dentist to have him pack the socket with medicine. That helped.
Reply:When I had my wisdom teeth remoived, I was given a prescription for percocet, and they were barely enough to stave off the pain every 6 hours. I slept a lot, put a wet wash cloth on the back of my neck, and gargled as often as I could stand it with the accompanying mouth wash.
Reply:ibuprofen is for pain killers only. its better for take antibiotic for sure. may there's an infection already..
Reply:wisdom tooth removal is really painful and especially you have infection , cant put in words the apin,

however pencilin and keeeping mouth free from food particles is more essential.

ibuprofen is equally a good medicne, but careful not to get ulcerous problems with this painkiller is to be consumed along with food and not empty stomach
Reply:stay ahead of the pain. taking ibuprofen every 4 hours is fine. call your pharmacist if your doc is not available right now and ask if 1200 mg is too much every 4 hours though. thats a high dose.
Reply:be very careful of dry socket~ follow all directions from the dentist, do not spit anything out of your mouth, if u rinse w salt water open your mouth and let it fall out, also do not use a straw, or do any sort of sucking, as that will pull the clots out of the socket, also you can ask your dentist if there is anything stronger he can put you on based on your health history. pain is normal, but you should be able to be comfortable on the meds~ hope this helps!!!!
