Facial/ear pain after wisdom tooth extraction?

I had all 4 of my impacted wisdom teeth taken out a month ago. I had a dry socket about a week after but other than that have been on the mend. The last 2 days or so I have had lots of pain on the right side of my face spreading into my ear and have noticed when I am chewing that I am often biting the side of my mouth. The pain starts at my jaw (almost at my chin) and goes straight up to just above my temple stopping at the ear to cause a great amount of pain there! That side of the face is also very sensitive to the touch to the point that even a slight breeze causes pain. Do you think that is related to my surgery? I went to a oral/maxiofacial surgeon for this but he did say it was a very complicated procedure (I was stoned out of my tree) so I don't know...I will try and give him a call tomorrow but with the holidays I have no idea if he is open! If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated!

Facial/ear pain after wisdom tooth extraction?
There are nerves that run thru your jaw and near your ear, maybe one was affected. My son kept getting severe "earaches" but no infection could be found, that is how we found out he had impacted wisdom teeth. Maybe the nerve will need to be deadened or blocked somehow or there might be stray bone fragments still embedded in your jaw. Your best bet is to take some inbuprofen to reduce the inflammation and get hold of the Dentist as soon as they reopen after the holidays. Good Luck.
Reply:taking out wisdom teeth really is a big deal,it has some complications,in your case, you have pain because the nerves supplying these teeth are also innervating the face, the ears, the jaw etc.plus,it may be that during the procedure, the nerves were traumatized.nerve takes long time to recover, just relax, continue all your medications, make sure you take them on time,be on soft diet for a while, you will be better in a week or so,it will take time as you did the 4 all in one time.dry socket tends to heal longer,i know how it feels cos i always have dry socket even on ordinary tooth extraction.eat ice cream, healthy foods, lots of fruit juices lots of rest, avoid stressful activities, and you will be fine!!!hope you get well soon.
Reply:go to your dentist/ doctor
