On Friday july 20th at 1030am i got all 4 wisdom teeth removed. Right now it is 1010pm Saturday, another 12 hours and it will be 48 hours since my surgery. Since my surgery i have been eating a very soft diet, peanut butter, mashed potatoes, easy mac, pudding, ext.... all 4 of the wisdom teeth were NON impacted, the bleeding has stopped. i just would like to know 1. how long until i can eat some "real" food again and 2. when can i smoke again ... i REALLY REALLY dont want to get "dry socket" .... please dont leave comments like quit smoking or w/e im not interested in doing that, but i really do appriciate any 1 who helps me answer these questions. god bless... and if i cant start eating real food again any time soon... any more sujestions as 2 what soft filling foods i can eat... thanks :)

Your dentist should of told you how long, but my fiance had his wisdom teeth pulled out and they were impacted. He had them pulled out on a friday and by sunday night he was eating real food. Good Luck and feel better.
Reply:Your gums can take up to 8 weeks to fully heal. The pain will go away sooner than that. You should continue the soft diet for a few days. Try soup. That is what I did when I got mine out. As for the smoking you really shouldn't do that until the gum closes. I would not smoke for a few days and I know that sucks but trust me you do not want to get a dry socket because they hurt like hell and it will take alot longer for your gums to heal. Good Luck!
Reply:well then since you dont want us to tell you to stop smoking then i would say, wait another week before you start smoking. i have spacers on which hurt and i have to eat soft foods too. i dont have any suggetions for you. oh wait,,, i do..........

$+()P $/\/\()K!|VG! you should be able to figure that out!!! if ya cant i will tell you why.....

the smoking is killing your brain cells as well as making your lungs look like an over done steak. i dont know you but i care about people and i dont want people dying for stupid causes. please do this for your safety.
Reply:You can smoke 8 hours after extraction. You can eat any thing that is comfortable to eat 12 hours after extraction. After you eat or smoke gently rinse your mouth to loosen food from the sockets.Don't use a brush on the area and don't use a straw for at least a week. When we smoke we don't draw as hard as we do from a straw.Good luck not getting a dry socket I know they are painful.
Reply:the reason why the dentist tells you not to eat hard foods for atleast 4 days is because they dont want you to risk tearing the already sensitive gums that you have for the surgery. now as far as smoking goes. i smoke too and its not my place to tell you not to smoke cause to tell you the truth its hard not too. so the reason why they tell you not to smoke while you have had surgery on your teeth because the gums absorb the nitcotine and you could make them start bleeding again. wait until you start eating rough foods again. tip: if you can crunch chips without feeling pressure on your gums. then you can smoke. now on the peanut butter thing. you shouldnt eat it after surgery becuase it makes it harder for the gums to heal. stick with jello or yougurt . something with active cultures in it so it will eat the bacteria in your mouth. per say keeping your mouth clean until it heals.
Reply:My 16 yr. old son had his wisdom teeth, all 4 of them %26amp; non-impacted, pulled in April 07. For swelling......sleep sitting up with ice on your face. 20 min. on %26amp; 20 min. off, as long as you can keep that up, during the day. For eating, you are doing well with your soft diet. Stick with that for a few days. Your teeth %26amp; gums will let you know when you can handle harder foods. My son was eating burgers by about 4 days after surgery. Smoking.........wait at least 1 week. Also, no sucking through a straw. You are right, you don't want dry socket. For pain, IBU or Tylenol, once you are off pain pills. My son was off pain pills about the 2nd or 3rd day. Best wishes to you. Hope this helps. :O)
Reply:Smoke as little as you can until the wounds are healed, and rinse your mouth out after you smoke each time. I used 1 part hydrogen peroxide 2 parts water, and I healed in no time. It has no taste whatsoever, I promise. As for the food, do what you've been doing, and slowly add harder foods, being careful when you chew.

You shouldn't be more than two weeks before you can go back to your normal diet and smoking. Hope this helped! And don't forget, rinse rinse rinse! It'll help a bunch!
Reply:Do not smoke, do not suck on a straw, do not drink any soda. Those things can cause bleeding and pain.

In a week, try eating a bigger variety of non chewy foods.
