Should you worry? No. Should you call your dentist? Yes.

Why? Because You should be able to chew.

There are several reasons why you may not be able to, and your dentist can help identify the cause and therefore, the problem.

The good news is that you are not in pain and it sounds like the swelling is resolving.

Keep eating soft foods, milkshakes made with Ensure or other supplement will help you keep up your strength. Ensure doesn't taste quite so bad if you refrigerate it first!
Reply:you should be asking your dentist. not yahoo answers people. and no, it isn't normal. you should be at least able to open your mouth and be able to eat. call your dentist. not asking people on here.
Reply:It took about a week until the swelling went down when I had my wisdom teeth removed. Being unable to chew sounds a bit odd. My teeth were impacted as well, and I recall being able to eat normally not too long after they were removed.

It would really depend on alot of factors. Ive been told the older you are, the worse it can be. I was 17, and it wasnt too bad. If you have any questions, I would talk to your dentist.
Reply:I had the same thing, I was put out and apparently the surgeon clamps your mouth open.

My chiropractor manipulated my jaw very gently until I could open my mouth again.

I feel for you.

Good for weight loss, though.
Reply:youre usually swollen and bruised for a while days after getting your wisdom teeth taken out. dont worry, nothing is wrong. if you are still swollen after 2 weeks, go back to your dentist
Reply:i would think you should be a little better than you are. the inability to open your jaw wider could be due to the grasp the dentist had on it. you should be able to chew soft foods though. i'd go in and have him check it out. can't be to safe. you need to think about infection and dry socket.
