Wisdom tooth at age 13??

okay sooo im 13 %26amp;%26amp; i have a tooth wich is under my gum %26amp;%26amp; bones. i looked it up, %26amp;%26amp; its an impact wisdom tooth. however, they dont *** around till the age`s of 17-25. is this a wisdom tooth. IM IN SERIOUS PAIN PPL!! I WANT TO CRY SOO OBAD. OMG! please let me know. im scared 2g2 the dentist.

Wisdom tooth at age 13??
No, it won't be wisdom teeth at your age.

They are your 2nd molars.

Count from the front centreline of your mouth backwards. The 1st molar will be tooth #6,

The 2nd molar (called "12 year-old molars") will be tooth #7. It may come thru as late as 15 years old.

Wisdom teeth are the 3rd molars and would be tooth #8. I have never seen these come thru until at least 15 years old.
Reply:count the molars that you have on that side. the wisdom tooth is the 3rd molar back. don't count the bicuspids. they look like molars but are smaller. at 13 years you are on the young side to have a wisdom tooth (3rd molar) coming in but it still is possible that it is a wisdom tooth. try some orajel for the pain. you can pick it up at walmart or other drug store. i would call a dentist and have them take a look. there is no reason to be scared if all they are going to do is look and possibly take an xray. at least they will confirm your suspicions.
Reply:ok if you count you bicuspids it's the 4th molar like tooth in the back. (if you don't count your bicuspids it's the 3rd.) for girls your wisdom teeth should come in around 17 or 18. 15 being the earliest case. 22 being the avg. of late bloomers.

for guys it's a little longer 19, 20, or 21. (late being 25-26 early being 17)

Be sure you aren't looking at your 12 year old molars. Which come in from 11-13 yrs. It truely depends on when you recieved you teeth or your, eruption age. if you didn't lose your first tooth by 1st grade then you are a late bloomer...don't be scared of the dentist...you should probably go see your dentist. Be sure that it's not your 12 year old molars before going in there and complaining about having your wisdom teeth and it really being your 12 year old molars...that would be embarrising...i hope all goes well

Wisdom Teeth extraction estimate?

I have two wisdom teeth that both have cavities and have started to decay. I'm actually fairly certain that the roots have started to become exposed. It's not very painful and is something I want to take care of ASAP. I would have taken care of it earlier but had many financial woes that prevented me from seeking care. My teeth are not impacted, just in bad shape. With a local anesthetic, can anyone give me an idea of what this procedure may cost me? Anyone have a similar situation?

Wisdom Teeth extraction estimate?
I'm not sure how much the local anesthesia will cost you if they can do it, but I imagine the removal of each tooth will be around 180 give or take. I recently had 3 removed - 2 were impacted. The whole procedure cost me a little over $1300.

General Anesthesia 340.00

Impacted x2 330.00

Surg Removal/Erupted 185.00

General Anesthesia add 1 unit 125.00 (I woke up in the middle of the surgery)
Reply:Estimate:

The cost of tooth extraction varies based on how difficult the oral surgery procedure is. Some teeth are completely erupted into the mouth and have small roots. In most cases, this dental surgery runs about $125 to $150. The dentist's fee usually includes a follow up post operative visit to check your healing. You should always obtain a written estimate of the fee for your dental surgery before beginning any procedure.

If an incision has to be made into the gum tissue and the gums have to be reflected off of the tooth, the cost of tooth extraction is more than a simple procedure. This is called a soft tissue impaction and requires additional time and techniques than just a simple extraction. If a tooth also has some bone covering it, it is called a partial bony extraction and costs more than just a soft tissue impaction. Fees for this tooth extraction procedure run from about $200.00 to $350.00 and if sutures were placed, the fee usually includes the follow up visit to remove the stitches.

The most difficult removal procedure is with an impacted wisdom tooth. The cost of tooth extraction in this case is the greatest due to the special care and difficulty of doing this wisdom tooth extraction. The fee in this case ranges from $350.00 to $650.00 per tooth. Some patients choose to have general anaesthesia for their oral surgery procedures and there is a separate cost for this.

Is it normal for one side of the face to swell substantially more than the other after teeth extraction?

I had all four of my impacted wisdom teeth removed at once 2 days ago. The lower left side of my face is swelling more and more. The right side has stayed the same. It looks so scary and abnormal, it just keeps getting bigger!

Is it normal for one side of the face to swell substantially more than the other after teeth extraction?
it is . , it cld be that the left side takes long to removed thus it gives you a greater infammation .the longer the procedure the more trauma it give to the tissue around it.lower teeth are much harder to remove most of the time due to the bone density on the mandible as compared tot he upper(maxillary bone). Dont worry it will be be ok . help it by taking the medicines the doc gave you..

you will be fine honey. And dont talk much , let it rest .
Reply:its something normal don't be afraid

How long should it take for the hole to close after an extracted wisdom tooth?

About 2 weeks ago I had a completely impacted wisdom tooth pulled. Anyhow, there is still a small hole where the surgery took place, and it is still a little bothersome because food gets stuck in the hole. About how long should it take for the hole to close up completely?

How long should it take for the hole to close after an extracted wisdom tooth?
mine took months to close up

and yes it does get annoying getting that food out

but it will close up eventually
Reply:Believe it or not it could take up to 6 months to completely close up. The hole itself will heal with in 3/5 weeks but the hole my take a really long time to fill in..good luck

Wisdom teeth removal..pain!?

On Monday I had 2 impacted (bottoms) and 2 erupted wisdom teeth pulled. It's friday and i'm still having moderate pain. I take 2 600 mg ibuprofen every six hours but I'm having aching pain before the six hours are up. I went back after I had the surgery and I had infection on one side but i'm taking penicillin for that. Is this pain normal? should I take 1 ibuprofen every 4 hours? On the label the dentist has me taking just 1 every six hours...I would die. Help

Wisdom teeth removal..pain!?
You need to get a stronger pain med from your dentist/oral surgeon. I remember wen my two bottom wisdom teeth were removed. I was out for te entire procedure, and my mom tried for half an hr. to wake me. Then I went to my brother's house and drooled blood all over his white satin sheets. It was very uncomfortable, but the pain med that was prescribed to me made it bearable. It certainly wasn't ibuprofen! That stuff is a joke. Don't worry about doing anything but resting and getting better. Stay in bed, and chill.
Reply:If you feel the pain is abnormal, consult your doctor. It could be an indication of infection, which can lead to very serious issues. Also, if you feel your doctor is not doing enough or taking you seriously, by all means consult another doctor, it is your well being at stake!
Reply:If you haven't already talked to your dentist about this, you should.

Sounds like a classic case of dry socket to me.
Reply:You may have what they call a dry socket. That's a painful condition following a tooth extraction caused by a blood clot that does not properly fill the empty socket, leaving the bone underneath exposed to air and food.

I had one of those and had to go back to the dentist to have him pack the socket with medicine. That helped.
Reply:When I had my wisdom teeth remoived, I was given a prescription for percocet, and they were barely enough to stave off the pain every 6 hours. I slept a lot, put a wet wash cloth on the back of my neck, and gargled as often as I could stand it with the accompanying mouth wash.
Reply:ibuprofen is for pain killers only. its better for take antibiotic for sure. may there's an infection already..
Reply:wisdom tooth removal is really painful and especially you have infection , cant put in words the apin,

however pencilin and keeeping mouth free from food particles is more essential.

ibuprofen is equally a good medicne, but careful not to get ulcerous problems with this painkiller is to be consumed along with food and not empty stomach
Reply:stay ahead of the pain. taking ibuprofen every 4 hours is fine. call your pharmacist if your doc is not available right now and ask if 1200 mg is too much every 4 hours though. thats a high dose.
Reply:be very careful of dry socket~ follow all directions from the dentist, do not spit anything out of your mouth, if u rinse w salt water open your mouth and let it fall out, also do not use a straw, or do any sort of sucking, as that will pull the clots out of the socket, also you can ask your dentist if there is anything stronger he can put you on based on your health history. pain is normal, but you should be able to be comfortable on the meds~ hope this helps!!!!

Post-extraction wisdom teeth pain?

I had my impacted, still under the gums, wisdom teeth removed exactly 2 weeks ago. I did not have any problems following the operation, in fact, I was surprised at how ok I felt (not great, but better than expected!).

That is, until today. I have had almost unbearable pain on one side of my mouth, it includes both bottom and top teeth, the pain extends along the other teeth in that side of my mouth (beginning at the extraction site) and I have some minor swelling of that side of my face.

Any ideas what this could be? Standard painkillers don't even touch the pain, will have to see someone about it tomorrow, I suppose...cheers! Thanks for your help.

Post-extraction wisdom teeth pain?

did u go for follow up checkup to da dentist,,,after da extraction ,,if not den go and show to the dentist,,,,

gud luckya...
Reply:why this length only.
Reply:Sounds like an infection. I almost had that happen to me when some food got stuck in the hole. See a dentist.

I the mean time, wiskey will work better than pain killers. Bottoms up!
Reply:wisdom teeth extraction is a pain ful process, i sympathise but if its just one side you may have an infection there, try and see your doc today for some antibiotics
Reply:Go back to your dentist to re exmine.usually will not but unless you have foreign partical in the gum before closing the wound will cause this pain.
Reply:Could be a dry socket.
Reply:the best painkiller for tooth pain is solpedine, the soluble ones. you can also crush them up+rub them on your gums+ they`ll act as a anaesthetic for a while. it sound like mayde having your teeth out has triggered off an abcess, try get dentist today cos it`ll just get worse.
Reply:You have an infection. You need to go to your regular doctor and ask for antibiotics..dont worry about going back to the dentist. they will not be able to take a look until the infection is gone. The best antibiotic that works really well for dental infections and soft tissue infections is KEFLEX.. it is available in liquids which i find works faster than the pills. to get the liquid, just tell your doctor that you cannot open you mouth wide and you are nauseous so she will give you the liquid prescription. Also keep a spit cup handy because if you start to have a bitter/stank taste in your mouth then an abcess has popped somewhere in your mouth and you must spit. If that happens also have listerine handy to disinfect your mouth. you should also sleep on your side, not your back incase one ruptures in your sleep.
Reply:It's probally a dry socket, go to the Dentist. They need to appy medicine to it.

Does anyone know of low cost for getting wisdom teeth removed in California?

My son doesn't have dental insurance and needs his wisdom teeth removed-2 are impacted.

Does anyone know of low cost for getting wisdom teeth removed in California?
I would look into eHealthPlus membership. It will give you

a big break on extractions, with general dentists as well

as specialists. Look for both general dentists and oral surgeons

by zip code.
Reply:California is a big state or I could be more specific. However I highly recommend looking into a local Dental School or College.

Also depending on your sons age, there are charities that can help you as well

My school dentist told me that about my wisdom tooth ... help pls /..?

before he refer me to the national dental centre ... he say that my 2 impacted wisdom tooth will be given two injection and no sedation .... and my gum need to be cut and break into half to remove it .. i so scare now .. i only scare the injection .. and the pulling pressure .. and this is a local anes ..

My school dentist told me that about my wisdom tooth ... help pls /..?
Are you sure he said this? He ought to be fired! I've had wisdom teeth removed and they didn't do it this way. Of course, in the USA we go to private dentists and pay a lot of money and we don't have national health care. Still, I can't imagine why the dentist tried to frighten you so. See if you can get information from another dentist before you have the procedure.
Reply:Dentists have a way of doing it ~ much less scary than the school dentist told you ~ Its garbage ~

Any sensitive dentist will do it as easily as he can, with injections and maybe even sedation. I had mine out ~ and I woke up in another room ~ after sedation ~ Talk to your dentist or call and get a referral to have them removed. You may have trouble swallowing but its not bad ~ honestly ~ some even give you pain medications ~ dont listen to the school dentist ~

They dont break your jaw ~ my my my !
Reply:I still have my wisdoms..and never had a problem..every dentist wants to yank them..but why when there is nothing wrong.
Reply:I had 4 surgically removed. The doc gave me a valium, then injections, and nitrous. I was awake during it, but I didn't care what was going on because of the nitrous. It wasn't scary. Maybe this is what they are going to do to you? I don't know if nitrous is considered sedation, so they might be going to give you that. Good luck! From my experience, it was not bad.

Will Amoxicillin get rid of a tooth/gum infection resulting from a wisdom tooth?

I have an impacted wisdom tooth on the bottom rite which i'm gettin removed next week. It caused an infection yesterday, my rite cheek is swollen with pain radiating to the head and ear. I've taken 5 doses of Amoxicillin as instructed since yesterday, still the pain and the swelling is the same. How long does it take it to kick in? I hope it's at least keepin the infection from spreading elsewhere if not cure it. I must take 3 tablets a day for a week, each tablet is 500mg.

Will Amoxicillin get rid of a tooth/gum infection resulting from a wisdom tooth?
You're on a high dose of amoxicillin so it will take 2 or 3 days at least to display signs of it working. Don't worry, it's totally normal. If the pain continues as it is for another 5 days then go back to your dentist and get a prescripition for Voltarol...in the mean time 2 paracetamol every 4 hours and 2 ibuprofen every 4 hours but stagger them so you are taking one or the other every 2 hours....don't take them at the same time!!! eg 2 paracetamol at 2pm then 2 ibuprofen at 4 pm and 2 paracetamol at 6pm.

hope you feel better soon
Reply:I've never had a real problem with an impacted wisdom tooth. But I have had a tooth infection and a horrible toothache before, where I had to be on antibiotics and pain medication. The dentist prescribed the same thing for me, 500mg of Amoxicillin, and also 800mg of Ibuprofen for pain. One time, the pain was so severe they gave me Vicodin. I don't know what an impacted wisdom tooth is like, but I can tell you that an abscessed tooth is excruciating.

Amoxicillin will kill the infection and the pain will start to ease up, but it may take a while. The doctor or dentist who prescribed the antibiotics should also have given you a strong pain medication. The antibiotics will treat the cause of the pain (infection), but it will take time. Go back to the dentist and ask for pain medication. In the mean time, Ibuprofen will help with the pain and swelling. You can get 200mg Ibuprofen over the counter.

The Amoxicillin will definitely keep the infection from spreading, as long as you keep taking it as directed. I remember when I had to take it, it seemed like it took a while to start working for me too. I didn't notice any real improvement for at least 2 or 3 days. But it will work. If it seems to be getting worse, definitely go back to the dentist. I don't know if Penecillin is stronger, but for a really bad infection you might need a stronger antibiotic. Usually, Amoxicillin works though.

Another thing is try to take it easy...don't do any exercise or heavy lifting, because that will increase your heart rate and make the imflammation worse. That will cause even more pain and swelling. Right now, you just want to be calm and take it easy, and let the medication work. This is one time where you definitely have an excuse to just sit and watch tv or play on the computer! :)

LA or sedative to remove one bottom wisdom tooth?

I'm removing an impacted wisdom tooth soon and i was asked if i want to have a partial sedative to make me drowsy or just local anaesthesia. I can't decide which would be necessary whether i should pay extra for a sedative? ..i removed 2 previously on LA

LA or sedative to remove one bottom wisdom tooth?
Ask the oral surgeon how difficult is the impaction? Also, know your attitude. Are you worried or jumpy in the dental chair? IV sedation will help. Uncomplicated impactions can be done under local. IV only relaxes you. You will still get local only you won't know it. I am a dentist.
Reply:If the tooth is impacted, I would recommend you be put to sleep. Both of my bottom wisdom teeth were impacted and the pain I felt when I woke up was bad. I could not imagine being awake or having a local to get me through that!!!
Reply:Assuming that the wisdom tooth is NOT impacted:

how do you react to pain, to icky sounds? were you bothered by the other surgery?

i would go for the partial sedative, but that is just me.
Reply:Is the tooth still completely under the gum tissue? Impacted in bone? If so I would probably go for the sedative, because I wouldn't want to see or hear what was going to go on to get it out. If it is impacted in the bone then there will be more going on than just pulling it out, as I figure was the case with the other 2 you had taken out.

But if the other two were slightly impacted also and you were fine, then you would probably be OK. I have known people to do it both ways, but I guess I wouldn't want to deal with it!

I had all four impacted and there was never a question of not being sedated! Thankfully!

Good Luck! and dont forget to take the pain medication as soon as you can afterwards!
Reply:All four of my wisdom teeth were impacted and I was going to try a local anesthesia and that didnt work, I had to get my oral surgeon to stop and sedate me. I would definantly recommend the Sedative. Best of Luck!
Reply:I had all of my teeth pulled at one time with a local anesthetic in about an hour, at only 22, boy did they want to stay but i honestly only felt a little pulling at the time. ANd it did not hurt bad while i was healing either.

Can ANYONE help? I had a wisdom tooth pulled and I think I am dying.?

I have never had such pain (other than labor). I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed and mt whole face, head and jaw hurts. I have a massive lump on the jaw line...is all of this normal? When can I eat and drink again? I only had the procedure done this morning, but I can't even drink, I get a shooting pain when I do. Please only serious answers, I'm really not in the mood for scarism. Thanxs in advance for anyone who helps.

Can ANYONE help? I had a wisdom tooth pulled and I think I am dying.?
Yes it hurts like hell for the first day. If it still hurts tomorrow I'd call in and ask to be seen. Didn't they give you meds for the pain? If not call them now!! And get something for the pain, I know they gave me some good ones when I had it done.
Reply:Call your oral surgeon and ask if you can possibly have a dry socket.
Reply:sounds like a dry socket to me and they hurt like he:: I would call the emergency number to the person who performed the surgery immediately :(

DO u prefer Injection to the wisdom tooth gum or dry socket ,,>>>???

DO u prefer Injection to the wisdom tooth gum or dry socket ,,%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;???
why do you remove two impacted molar at the same visit i cant see any reason

the time is widely varied from 15 min to 3 hour depend on case

dry socket is different case and much simpler than impaction
Reply:Hi it might take up to an hour to do this it depends entirely on how impacted your teeth are they might be easy to remove or they might take ages to come out! you shouldnt worry about it though it shouldnt take too long as the surgeon knows this procedure like the back of his hand hope i have helped!

I'm sorry about all the pain.

the reason you have a giant lump is probably because your gums are swollen and filled with blood.

right now i suggest calling a doctor or your dentist that did the operation.

all i can really suggest is get some warm salt water and rub it on your gums where the big lump is and see if that works some of the blood/ or fluids that might be in the lump up. also try baby orejel it tastes better and it is more powerful. [get the all night one--it lasts longer]

okay about the shooting pain this is most likely coming from the nerves that the roots of the were attached. they are probly in shock right now because they were just detached. just like when you were little and lost a tooth and touched the little whole and it hurt. that could be another possibilty.

again go to a doctor imediatly.

or take pain killers.

again im sorry about your pain hopefully your all better soon.

Reply:Ask whomever did the surgery. They can assist you.

I had a wisdom tooth pulled once, but I did not experience what you are experiencing. I would call someone for help.
Reply:try to gargle with warm water and salt and use an ice pack for your face. You should try calling your dentist.
Reply:Call them now!

Try an ice pack and Tylenol while you wait for an answer.

They may be able to prescribe some coedine for you, have them call it into the pharmacy and make sure it is ready to pick up BEFORE you leave to get it.
Reply:That stuff is par for the course. Get some sort of frozen thing wrapped in cloth and put it against your face. I does really hurt!

They should have given you pain killers.

Careful not to drink and flush the "plug" out of the hole the tooth left. You need to keep that pulpy glob in there to heal.

Look up "dry plug" to make sure you didn't do that.

Hot foods with wisdom teeeth removed?

I got my impacted wisdom teeth removed yesterday and i was wondering when can i eat hot foods like soups and beans? i have stitches on the bottom but not the top. when will i be fully healed? i do have prescription medicines to prevent an infection, swellingness, and pain. thanks!

Hot foods with wisdom teeeth removed?
When I had my wisdom teeth taken out I wasn't told anything about the temperature of the food, just the texture. (nothing hard or crunchy) I think as long as it doesn't cause you any discomfort it's fine. The areas that have the stitches can take 2 weeks to fully heal.
Reply:About a week, if you keep food out by rinsing frequently.

Vallium addiction following a widom teeth surgery?

On friday july 20th i had a wisdom tooth extraction and a few days later i developed dry socket and could not sleep for 2 days, i went to my doctor because i was geting anxiety almost always at night never during the day... this past thursday night, friday night, saturday night , and sunday night i have taken a 5mg tablet of vallium to help me sleep, there were 20 pills given to me to be taken every 8 hours as needed but im just needing them at night.... there are 16 pills left, if i keep doing this trend how long until i would become addicted.... i suspect most of the heavy anxiety is because i cannot smoke for a little while in order to let my mouth heal from the surgery. on friday july 20th i got the 4 non impacted wisdom teeth pulled, that tuesday i had a "partial" dry socket so i havent been smoking and now its monday and all though he told me today its safe to smoke i dont know if it really is i dont want to go threw the dry socket pain again, i do hope to start smoking in a week.

Vallium addiction following a widom teeth surgery?
I have never heard of a dentist prescribing that many Valium for dental anxiety. It is meant to be a temporary solution to help people remain calm before, during, and just after dental visits.

Valium is not indicated as a sleep aid. If you are having trouble sleeping, you should treat the cause - is it pain?

If you have been free of smoking since July 20, you are almost there! Why not stick it out a few days and see if you can quit entirely. This is a great opportunity to make a change that could add years and quality to your life.

Having 4 teeth pulled?

I am getting 4 teeth pulled for second molar substitiution because of my impacted wisdom teeth. I am so scared about this I don't know what to do! How bad does this hurt? I heard the shot in the gums hurt worse than the actual pulling itself. Is this true? How long will this take? Any answer at all will be appreciated. I also have to get something done with my gums after I have my braces removed (which won't be anytime soon) and I would also like to know how bad it hurts. It's where the take a sharp knife and cut into my gums so the teeth don't return to their normal crooked stance. They tear ligaments or something. Thank you!

Having 4 teeth pulled?
I just had all four wisdom teeth pulled and they were all impacted. that was more than a month ago and I'm still going back to the doctor now because of an infection in my lower jaw area, which is painful... But! dont worry..what I have is very uncommon. I asked! It hardly ever happens. Everyone who I asked when I was going to get them done..said that they healed just fine. You'll get good drugs for pain. You'll be uncomfertable for sure because you'll need to eat only soft foods. and you'll be sore..but The mouth is the one spot on the body that heals the quickest. Just give it time. Get lots of rest..and take your pain pills when you need it. Have lots of movies to watch while your recovering and you'll be better in no time! Good luck! :-)
Reply:I never even had a cavity so getting my teeth pulled was sooo scary. Yet when I was all done I didn't feel ANYTHING but just uncomfortability. I had them impacted and they had to open my gums to get to the teeth. Honestly the worst part is not being able to eat what you want. I was 18 when I had this done and about 6 hours later I wanted to go out with my friends no matter how ridiculous I looked. So you odn't have anything to worry about! I feel if people were in SEVERE pain that maybe they were milking it because I honestly had no problems what so ever! Another gross part if you have ot shoot water into the holes of your mouth afterwards so that food doesn't get stuck in the stiches it's gross but you get used to it!
Reply:Don't worry at all the thing that only hurts is the meds that the needle gives you but after that it is completely painless
Reply:it wont hurt. they'll numb you down like it was for a filling or whatever, and then they pull them out.
Reply:I just had mine taken out yesterday. I did what you yourself are doing. I looked on the internet for how other people had to deal with it, and what they went through. I got myself all nervous and was actually ready to reschedule from what I had read. Instead I went in yesterday, and they hooked me up to an iv. They told me they were going to relax me, so gave me a slight injection, and boom I was out. Dont remember a thing. All I remember is waking up from what felt like to be 10 seconds later and I was done. NO pain. NO swelling. Nothing. All those horror stories were not true for me. I was perfectly fine. And I could talk. I was even yelling a couple hours later while I was joking with my friends. It is now a day later, and I still have no pain, no swelling, and no bleeding. My wisdom teeth bled for like 10 minutes. Don't beleive everything you read. Trust me. I had all four taken out. Two fo them were impacted and one was totally cracked at the gumline. Only thing that sucks is that you cant eat much the first day. lol. Dont be scared.

Whats wrong with my teeth?

I have a pain in my teeth when i eat hot or cold foods. It shoots thru my mouth as well as aches. Its my bottom molars. Only started in the last week or so. It no different when i eat sweets. Ive never had a hole in my tooth b4 so i dunno what that feels like. Ive also impacted wisdom teeth, they have come thru but maybe huring because they r pusing on other teeth? I dunno hel me out ere

Whats wrong with my teeth?
Sensitive teeth is usually caused by thinning of the enamel that allows things like hot, cold or sweets to get to the nerve endings a toothpaste for sensitive teeth or one of the new enamel rebuilding toothpastes should help this.

If you have a cavity, you would more likely have a lasting pain that the shooting you described.

If your wisdom teeth have come thru but are still putting a lot of pressure forward this could cause a dull, deep ache that didn't really let up much.

Sounds like you need to see a dentist!! Ibuprofen can help the ache if it isn't to severe and the toothpastes may need to be something you use forever but nothing can replace seeing the doc.
Reply:You could have a cavity. Go see your dentist soon so you can get it taken care of:)
Reply:use toothpaste for sensative teeth, like sensodyne. it really helps, i have that problem now too, as we get older the enamel gets thinner and gets tiny cracks in it.
Reply:Well, the pain that you feel in your teeth when you eat hot or cold foods may be because you wore away some of the enamel on your teeth. That generally makes teeth pretty sensitive. You might wanna switch to a new toothpaste that prevents the wearing away of that enamel.

I'd probably see a dentist.
Reply:Sounds like you might have a cavity. Go see your dentist.
Reply:Just go see a dentist, that's probably the best answer
Reply:You need to see a dentists. Sounds like you have a cavity and it needs filling before it affects the other teeth. Also you may need those wisdom teeth extracted.. It won't be cheap but it's well worth it. Dentures cost a heck of a lot more. Better to take care of them early than too late.
Reply:This may sound a little nutty but you might try letting the "flouride" toothpaste stay and soak into your teeth for awhile. It's like getting a cheap flouride treatment. If you are tempted to swallow the toothpaste, keep a napkin close that you can spit into. Try this for a couple of days about three times a day.

How long after Wisdom tooth extraction can I start singing again?

I just got my impacted wisdom tooth and the molar next to it (top right ones) extracted 3 days ago. I have a few disolvable sutures in my mouth. What I am wondering is when it would be ok to start singing again? My jaw feels really tight and swollen, but with Motrin (and a little Vicodin every once in a while) I dont really have any pain. So if I sing would I be putting myself at risk at all for dry socket or anything else? What would be recommended? Thanks!

How long after Wisdom tooth extraction can I start singing again?
Ah, the joy of wisdom teeth extraction! Hope you're feeling ok. Unless it was a major gig or audition, I'd give it some time yet. 3 days isn't long, and you say your jaw is really tight, so rest up. Let the sutures dissolve in their natural time rather than because you hit a big note!

When you do start to sing again, don't freak out if your sound is a teensy bit different - your resonating space has been through some changes. Everything will settle down and you'll get used to it.
Reply:you should be okay as long as you don't suck in really hard, or at all i guess. i say this cuz when i sing i tend to suck my spit in, you know, so my mouth is clear to sing. if you don't do that, or smoke, you should be okay to sing. my dentist told me to do wtvr i wanted except for sucking or anything that hurts. so if it hurts then don't do it.take ur vicodin or advil and belt one out. ~good luck

my dentist suggested a week. but then again my sutures had to be removed. you should really wait a week if you still have swelling though. you do not want to open those sutures
Reply:Until your jaw stops hurting...
Reply:For sure wait until all of the swelling is gone. But you best bet is to wait until the pain without using pain-relievers is gone too.

Singing should't put you at risk for a dry socket/infections/etc. A lot of those problems can come from eating harder foods too quickly.

I dont think that after three days u have to be worried much abt a dry socket. i would still give it abt a week though. you dont want to hurt your jaw while your oblivious to pain, ie. bc of the vicodin. stick to humming. youll be able to sing in no time.

Im actually having this done two days after christmas. I'm kinda worried abt it.

Getting my wisdom teeth out?

I have all my wisdom teeth and one is impacted. I'm twenty.

How long does the swelling last after removal?

Getting my wisdom teeth out?
You'll look fine by Saturday. Put a cool gel-pad on your jaw once a day, drink fluids and rest. don't let them pull all of them out at once. Just the impacted one and the one directly across from it for even-ness because your teeth will shift after the procedure. Don't be afraid of the pain -it's temporary and worth it. :D
Reply:It takes two or three days. Put it off as long as you can.It hurts!
Reply:i understand i had all 4 of mine pulled at one time and it took about a day or so but the meds helped with the pain and swelling
Reply:you're going to swell and look like a chipmunk for about a week. unavoidable. get over it and get it done.good luck.

JUST got WIsdom Teeth out. Help please.?

i had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out. They were impacted. Not much pain now. But my question is that i have a sorta big black hole on the bottom right side, probably where the doc took the took out ect. but on the bottom left i dont have this black hole. is this normal? could i have maybe ripped it open?

JUST got WIsdom Teeth out. Help please.?
If you JUST had these teeth out today, do NOT rinse your mouth until tomorrow. Really. It sounds like the tooth on the left was completely under the gums and the flap was sewn back closed all the way. The one on the right may have been partially in your mouth, so it left a bigger wound. The idea of suturing surgical sites is to put the gums RIGHT BACK WHERE THEY CAME FROM and not to "draw them tight" to close up the hole. You probably did not rip it open, but if you have doubts, bite on more gauze and get it checked out in the AM.
Reply:they should have scheduled you another appointment for a follow-up and to do irrigation. but i had that done about a year ago and i didnt really look in my mouth to see if it was there or not but idk you should ask your oral surgeon. hope i helped
Reply:The extraction on the right must have been more extensive and will take longer to heal. The important thing is to make sure you drink plenty of fluids and keep that "black hole" rinsed out or you can get dry socket. Food particles can get stuck in there an cause a lot of pain.
Reply:This possible black hole is a) hole from now missing tooth b) black due to the color of the stitches used to sew up wound. If you were telling that this was a black hole twenty days after this surgery then i would say it was an infection; not the case here. Each hole (left or right side) will be different sizes depending on how deep they needed to open area to remove tooth.

Swelling after wisdom tooth extraction?

I had an impacted wisdom tooth out on wednesday at the hospital, it wasn't as straight forward as the dentist thought. After 1/2 hour of hideousness, some of my jaw bone being ground away and a second lot of injections it finally came out.

I understand this was a pretty tough thing for my face and jaw bone to deal with, but how long should the swelling last for? it is actually worse today than it was yesterday is this normal?

Swelling after wisdom tooth extraction?
I had a wisdom tooth out last year and although I didn't have any of the trouble you had, it still took nearly two weeks to heal, you also might have a funny taste in your mouth, this is cos you have an open wound in there. Actually my experience of having teeth pulled was nice as I had an injection in the back of my hand to relax me, can't remember the tooth extraction, then, I floated home. If you are in pain, go to the doctors.
Reply:Were you given any antibitoics?, the swelling should go down after a few days, if it hasnt go to your dentist and explain what happened, you need to do salt mouthwashes and keep it clean, i no it is sore but the mouthash will help heal the socket. It will take a few months for the gum to heal completely but the sockety should close within a few weeks. If you have any concerns go to your dentist and get it looked at .
Reply:It will be there for a few days, keep taking the antibiotics, I expect he has given you some Metronidazole at least, keep taking the full course of whatever he has given. You can take an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen, that will help.

If he has given you metronidazole, whatever you do dont drink any alcohol on them. The mix very badly with booze and you will be horribly sick.

And yes, its normal for it to swell up more before it starts going down.

Hope you feel better soon.
Reply:The swelling is completely normal. It should go down in a few days. When I got my wisdom teeth pulled, the dentist said that if it wasn't necessary (it was hitting on a nerve) he wouldn't touch it because it was complicated. The right side of my face swelled so big it looked like I had a humongous jaw breaker in my mouth.
Reply:i had 4 wisdom teeth out and i looked like elephant woman for about two weeks, then to top it off i got an infection in my gums and was unable to eat for a while, only good thing was i lost half a stone!!
Reply:i have just had 4 wisdom teeth out in one go. kinda regretting it now, but you're not alone in the swelling dept. my jaw looks unbelievable, almost double the size. today is day 3 and looks like it may be starting to go down but only just.
Reply:on thursday i had 2 impacted wisdom teeth out, 2 additional wisdom teeth and 4 pre-molars out... i think i take the prize! lol anyway, the extractions dont really hurt anymore, but all my remaining teeth are aching and my jaws are huge! it's the 4th day and the swelling hasnt gone down yet. i iced the 1st two days and rotated heat yesterday... hopefully it goes down soon...
Reply:Had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out under general anesthetic back in June! Although there was not a lot of pain I had massive sweeling. I was off work for 10 days. Make sure you swill your mouth with salt warm water. You can take 2 paracetamol and 2 iboprofun together every four hours depending on your age and also go buy some arnichea as it helps with the bruising and swelling. They don't give you antibiotics anymore unless there was an infection in the area previously. Its normal for the surrounding area to be sore or teeth in the area to feel a bit loose due to the battering they have received. The swelling should start to go right down given a week maximum if not then phone your dentist there should be limited or no pain after about 4 days. Good luck. Its not a nice experience but almost everyone has to go through it as wisdom teeth are not required.

Teeth extraction for braces??how does it affect the face shape??

im 19 and my ortho suggested i have 4 premolars removed in order to create space for braces. Note that this is after i just had 2 impacted wisdom teeth removed a few weeks ago. My main concern is that gettin these 4 teeth removed would mean that i would be deprived of 6 teeth which seems like a big number. Would this effect the shape of my face as it develops???Ive read on forums about people complaining that theyre face tends to develop to be longer and thinner after gettin teeth removed. Would this affect me?? At what age does the human skull and jaw stop developing??

Teeth extraction for braces??how does it affect the face shape??
19 yrs is almost an ideal age for orthodontics(Braces) although at 16 yrs it would have been a bit better and less tedious...but still at this age growth of the jaw might be in its final stages..anywayz the reason of extraction of your premolars is to create space in your lower and upper jaw as your teeth must be crowded and for bracres to work space is required so that movement of teeth can take place..

and ofcourse it will affect the shape of your face..but mostly for the good as it will create space for proper movement to take place in jaw...and i think that it wouldnt actually affect your mastication(eating.etc) as your molars are still intact(if molars are not present then thats another story because they are the most imp teeth for eating,etc.)...anywayz but still if you are v.concerned regarding extraction ask your dentist that is there anyother loophool to avoid extraction.alternatively you could take a second opinion from an ORTHODONTISTS(Specialist in orhtodontics)
Reply:Talk to your othodontist about this. I had that many teeth removed, too. I don't know about when the human skull and jaw stop developing. Have you noticed how older actors heads continue to get larger as they age? i.e. Tom Hanks, John Travolta...
Reply:I really think you should get a second opinion. It sounds like you are having a lot of teeth removed. Im not saying that is definitely wrong, but that's a major step that can not be changed once it is done. It is better to be safe than sorry and a second and even third opinion may be very beneficial! Dont go through with this until you are SURE that is what YOU want to do!
Reply:Hi Jason,

When I got my braces, I had four teeth removed as well. They were the first set of molars next to the canines.

It totally changed the shape of my face, and my face is much slimmer and longer. However, I think I look a LOT better. I just had too many teeth for the size of my mouth, and now I look just right. The bottom half of my face was very full before, and my cheeks were a lot fuller. It was difficult to close my mouth, and my teeth were crowded.

Talk to your orthodontist about your reservations, and see if there are alternatives to your treatment...but just about everybody has teeth removed, so I don't know what s/he'd come up with.

PS: I got my braces after I turned 19, and I still looked different. It's not so much about your face growing, as it is the shifting of the teeth that cause the difference in your appearance.

Hope this helped!

Reply:Only your orthodontist knows how to get you from where you are to where you're going orthodontically. Don't even consider your wisdom teeth at this point since a vast majority of the population needs to have them removed. Also, more and more people aren't developing wisdom teeth, period, as we refine our diet and need crushing teeth less and less.

The shape of you lower face may change somewhat due to your orthodontic treatment, but not because you have these teeth removed. Orthodontists make very careful measurements of facial and skull structures and know scientifically the proportions that are considered "esthetic" by most members of society. Things will change shape, but they will do so for the better. An alternative to pulling teeth can sometimes be orthgnathic surgery. This surgery involves breaking the jaws, wiring you shut, and have plates and screws placed. I would rather have some teeth removed. At age 19, you are most likely done growing, and your skull is almost certainly done growing. Gaining weight makes the head look larger, but that is a soft-tissue issue, not a skeletal growth issue. Your face will not get longer nor thinner at this stage of your life. I hope this helps.
Reply:GET A SECOND OPINION!

A lot of times it isn't necessary to have teeth extracted for braces! I once had an orthodontist suggest that I have 4 premolars removed, too. I ran away as quickly as I could and went to another orthodontist who let me keep my teeth! I had braces for only a year and a half (would've had to have them for up to 4 if I had been trying to fix the empty space where the premolars had been extracted!), and even years later my teeth look great.

If you're concerned about it, I really really really suggest that you get a second opinion!! I don't want you to extract teeth for no reason like I almost did!!

Getting wisdom teeth extracted worried about missing college?

...the two lower wisdom teeth. they are not impacted, but my dentist wants them out. I am getting it done on a monday at 1:30, and have class the next day. I am not worried about the surgery, but will I have to miss any class? I don't want to fall too far behind since I'm taking pre-med classes.

Getting wisdom teeth extracted worried about missing college?
I had my lower wisdom teeth removed. They were impacted and surrounded by cysts. It was painful but I could have gone to work. I think you should be okay to go to class, But I would let the instructor know. Then they can be sure not to call on you or other stuff. Plus if you show up they will see how dedicated you are. Everyone is different. You may be just fine!
Reply:Get with your instructors. They understand things like this happen. Or if you aren't having any pain, call the dentist and see if if can be re-scheduled or can it wait until spring break? Good Luck and God Bless
Reply:When i got mine removed, I was fine as soon as the drugs wore off... No pain or swelling, I think if you keep up with the medication they perscribe you should be fine. I also had the 2 lower removed and they were not impacted either.
Reply:I had this done last spring break. It really didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would, I just couldn't speak because of the gauze pads in the back of my mouth. Also, all I could eat for 3 days was pudding and cheese, extremely soft foods. I really had no pain unless I opened my mouth but other than that I felt fine. If there were school I only would have taken the day they came out off and have a note stateing that I couldn't speak.

Can you sell teeth?

I recently had a little oral surgery to remove some impacted wisdom teeth and fix a jaw problem. After the surgery, my oral surgeon plunked down two of my teeth in front of me. I got to talking later that day about the teeth to my boyfriend who mentioned that they were ivory. Something I guess I knew but had always associated with elephants. The conversation went on and I started thinking about weather or not I could sell these teeth. I have no need for a couple of teeth, and they are in good condition. perhaps they could be sold to a company that makes false teeth, or to someone who works with ivory. Does anyone know if you can sell your teeth? Who would buy teeth? How would you go about doing it? I know it is a wierd question, but all answers are appreciated!

Can you sell teeth?
Your teeth aren't made from ivory--ivory is something totally different. Also, they don't use real teeth when making dentures. Being without blood supply the teeth will soon dry out and probably crumple. Sorry.
Reply:um.....i dont think so but maybe in some very very very very very special places which collects random stuff they will let u sell ur teeth...^^
Reply:yup I sold all of my baby teeth when I was a child for $1.00 ea

to the tooth ferrie...
Reply:only to the tooth fairy!
Reply:No you can't sell your teeth. They use elephants, hippos, walruses, etc for ivory because the amount of it is huge. Your two teeth wouldn't do much.
Reply:Unless you're an Elephant or Rhino the answer is no.
Reply:why would you want to?if you need money that bad get a job or borrow it

Wisdom teeth removal pain question?

Its been 7 days since I've had two wisdom teeth removed (bottom was impacted). There is still a throbbing pain near the lower extraction site. Normal tylenol controls that pretty well.

My question -- is it normal to have pain a week after removal?

I'm not looking for diagnoses. This is not an infection or dry socket.

Wisdom teeth removal pain question?
I think everyone is a little different, but I can remember when I had mine taken out they had to be surgically removed and I didn't ever have much pain. But my sister's were just a normal removal and she was on codine for two weeks. So I wouldn't worry to much about it as long as you know it isn't a dry socket! If it really worries you, you can always call your dentist and ask.
Reply:Yes. It's normal. You had 2 teeth removed. Wait another few days, if you don't see improvement, check it out. g'luck.
Reply:You may have food stuck in there. Did they give you an irrigation syringe to keep it clean? That really helps, and ibuprofen for swelling.
Reply:i had pain a month after removal but i also had dry soccets and 2 infections
Reply:Yes, I had my two lower wisdom teeth removed. You should expect anywhere from 7 to 10 days of pain.
Reply:I don't think it's normal to have that much pain a week after removal. I think you need to ask the dentist if all is okay. It couldn't hurt, could it?
Reply:You most likely have "dry socket"

i had this with one side of my lower wisdom teeth when they were pulled, the pain was unbearable.

pain is supposed to subside after the 4th day.

go to your doctor.
Reply:the pain should get better with time.

it's just that the roots on a wisdom tooth are huge and since yours were impacted they probably had a hell of a time removing them. try icing your jaw and continue with the tylenol and give it another week or so.
Reply:I noticed that it had been a week since my wisdom teeth had been extracted and any time I tried to do something strenuous (push ups in P.E. or lifting something heavy) the extraction site would hurt again!

So yes, it's normal.

Take it easy for a while!

Wisdom tooth extraction. Please Help!!!!?

Now it is Sunday night and I had an impacted wisdom tooth extracted Fri morning. At first I thought hey this is not too bad but Sat the pain was getting worse and by Sun, the pain has become unbearable. Not to mention I am on pain killers every 5 hours+antibiotics. My jaw is so sore I can barely open my mouth and as soon as the pain medication start to wear off I start to cry from the pain. My whole cheek hurts even my eye and left temple I just want to know if anyone has been in this situation and how long did it take for the pain to subside.

Wisdom tooth extraction. Please Help!!!!?
Something is wrong, dry sockets? Go back (pain like this is not normal) you will be OK, but go back ASAP ...you should'nt be in pain like that.
Reply:Hmm for me, it got better day by day, the absolute worst time was when the initial local anesthesia wore off a few hours after I got out so I had to pop some vicodines...but you could have a condition called dry sockets, check it out, and let your doc know so he can tell you what to do and give you more (possibly stronger) meds. Good luck with it all.
Reply:Well I got all of them taken out

ut doesn't hurt at all just stay calm
Reply:i had mine extracted 2 months ago...all the pain will go away in about 5 to 7 days...keep taking tynenol...or something for the pain...make sure not to get any food stuck in the hole....!!! hope you feel better!!...i know it hurts a lot
Reply:You need to go back to the dentist and gets this taken care of first thing in the morning. sounds like dry sockets. No fun whatsoever. But the pain goes away immediately once they pack them.
Reply:I'm too young to have gotten my wisdoms pulled yet, but I advise you call a medical practitioner soon.
Reply:atleast a week or two

my mom got hers extracted already

and it didnt stop hurting til after a week

sorry

eat ice cream cuz its soothing and soft

feel better :)
Reply:You probably are suffering the difficult side effects. There could've been nerve injury which makes that area very very very very sensitive. And then there's the bleeding too, and the swelling, and then the dryness and the air getting in it...

All part of it sadly.
Reply:I sympathise with you. I had mine drawn about a year ago, and it hurt like hell. Can't talk, can't drink and you can feel it all the way to the top of your nose.

The "good" new is that it should start getting better after two or three days. Talking and cold/hot food still won't be pleasant, but you can ease of the painkillers then.

Until then, best of luck.
Reply:Yeah it hurts bad. The soreness is due to the fact that your mouth was open for so long. If it's not the soreness and it's specifically the area where the tooth was extracted I'd go back asap. For me it was the whole damn jaw and it hurt like donkey balls for a few days. Try to apply an ice pack (for brief periods) on your jaw to see if it can help. Sorry for your pain :(
Reply:Your pain should be going away, not getting worse. It sounds like you may have gotten a dry socket, which is more painful than the original problem could have ever been! Maybe you even got a bit of food caught in the socket and now it is causing problems. Have you swished gently with some salt water to see if you can get anything out of it? Did you look in a mirror and see if the socket is full or if it is empty? Put some gauze in it and try to keep your teeth together enough to hold the gauze in until in the morning. You can put a heating pad on that side of your face too. Just don't fall asleep on it! Call the dentist first thing in the morning - you may even be able to reach the answering service tonight to get a message to anyone who is on call. They may be able to tell you what else you can do for it but you need to look at it so you can tell them if the socket is empty or full, if it is swollen inside, if it is a normal red or an angy color, if there is any oozing and stuff like that. Oh, I feel for you, I wish there was something that would take the pain away! Call them now!
Reply:Hi Dear, I am sorry to hear about your bad experience.

I had all my 4 wisdom teeth extracted and I was in very little pain. I didn't use my pain killers not even one pill. The same day, I had the work done, I had a job interview, my checks were a little big but not bad ugly.

I was so worry before the extraction so when I opened my eyes I just wanted to go out and celebrate that I survived. Put some effort on positive thinking. It might help you.

Otherwise you should call your dentist 1st thing Monday and let them know how you feel. It seems to me that your doctor was a little to tough with you. Next time don't go back with him, he must not be a good dentist. I was my experience helps.
Reply:I had all four pulled at the same time. I was in a little discomfort, but I wouldn't call it pain. I had a pocket of blood form over one of the extracted areas and wouldn't stop bleeding. The doctor said to remove the small pocket of blood or it will have problems healing. It looked like a thin layer of shin only it was dried blood. After I removed it, the bleeding finally stopped. I also was on pain medication for 5 days and after taking the meds I felt fine after the five days.

Each person reacts to any surgery differently. If your still in allot of pain in the morning, call the doctor and explain what you have gone through over the weekend. There could be some other issue that could be causing the pain. I totally understand you wanting relief from the pain. It sucks when you can't eat or drink anything without dealing with the pain. Good luck.
Reply:I had mine extracted last monday, I had the worst pain up until friday! It was the worst on thursday I could barely open my mouth. If you have any doubts, call the dentist. they have no problem with helping or answering questions. I know i had to call just to make sure on a couple things. Except for me, I didnt have pain meds because they made me get sick, so i was on prescription ibuprofen. Best of luck!
Reply:A good 48 to 72 hours, and it could be longer depending on the individual and the wound from the extraction. (I am no dentist, but I am an experienced mother whose children had those experiences.) Did you following the instruction from the dentist? Did you use ice pack to numb the sore jaw and cheek? And did you take the antibiotics as prescribed? If you have done all that, I believe the pain will stop soon..
Reply:Well hon...Fact is that tooth pain is the worse thing ever!! The reason for this is b/c how close all the nerves are to the brain..less far to travel. If you are taking your anitbotics on time, you are doing the best you can do. I learned that gargaling with peroxide, HELPS extremely!!!!!!! I put some in a glass. add a lil warm water and wash it around for 1 min.

Do this every hr!! Trust me it works like a charm. ALso if u ever have an ear ache, dip a qu-tip in the bottle of peroxide and gently put it in your ear!! I know this b/c I have had a ear ache for a few days. havent had time to go to the dr yet...its been helping it drain! Also cut your pain killer in half and take one piece at a time, it travels faster through the body this way
Reply:Once home, the painkillers should be taken as advised by your surgeon. Any pain, swelling or stiffness is usually at its worst 2 or 3 days after the operation and then gradually improves.

Do not vigorously rinse your mouth out during the first 24 hours because this disturbs the blood clots that are part of the healing process. After meals, rinse gently with warm salt water (one teaspoon of table salt to a glass of water).

You should keep your toothbrush away from the area for the first couple of days, but brush the rest of your teeth as you normally would.

At first, it may be possible to feel small fragments of bone with your tongue. These are the edges of the tooth socket and will soon disappear as the gum heals.

Depending on the type of stitches used, they may need to be removed (arrangements will be made for this to be done). If dissolvable stitches have been used, they will disappear 7 to 10 days after the operation.

Wisdom tooth extraction still painful?

Hi I'm new to this so I hope I'm doing it right. I had my right lower impacted wisdom tooth removed 4 days ago, with a local anesthetic. He had to put extra in because I wasn't numbed enough so I was full of the stuff.

I didn't feel a thing during the actual procedure as the anesthetic worked it's magic.

The problem is, I have been in agony with it since. It's kind of gone white around the stitch that he put in, is that normal? It feels like my cheekbone, jawbone and even my chin have been thumped. It actually reduced me to tears on two occasions and now I'm really fed up with it. I started to take a codeine/paracetamol over the counter pain killer but that caused horrific headaches and knocked me out so I'm sticking to regular paracetamol now.

I'm getting the stitch out in three days.

Also, on the same day I am taking an over 4 hour flight. If I'm still in pain will that make it worse? I was told I would be recovered within a few days of surgery but I'm not!

Wisdom tooth extraction still painful?
What you are experiencing is VERY normal.

I had my jaw broken a few years ago that caused a crack in a root of one of my wisdom teeth so it had to be taken out. It hurt like hell for a couple of weeks, probably moreso than yours since my jaw didn't really work. But all in all, the pain you have sounds the same as the pain I was having. Of course, I had a bottle of vicodin to help me along. It's in the same family as codeine, but maybe the different type of mixture won't give you headaches. It really did the trick for me. And the whiteness is the wound healing. Don't worry about that. If it turns a color, like green or purple, then you should be concerned.
Reply:there might be a bone or tooth splinter in there left over from the extraction. That happened to me once, about a week later my gum was so sore that I touched it, and felt the "Tooth splinter", it slid out and the pain was gone !
Reply:The3-4 days after a lower wisdom tooth extraction...if it feels like the pain is getting worse instead of better it might be a dry socket. Contact your doctor, he can place a dressing inside the socket to insulate it. As someone else on here has said, the "white" you're seeing is probably where you're healing, scabs look white when they're moist.

Should i have all 4 wisdom teeth taken out?

My top left wisdom tooth has deep decay so i'm definitely having that one taken out. The oral surgeon then told me that there is a nerve somewhere near my lower jaw and that there is a chance the bottom wisdom teeth could get bigger and touch the nerve. He said thats the nerve for feeling of the chin, jaw, tongue. Also, my lower wisdom teeth are not fully impacted, that is, they are partially stuck inside my gums. And the dentist said that can also cause an infection later on b/c you can't clean that area. But Its only the top left wisdom tooth that is causing me discomfort. So, is it a good idea to have all 4 taken out at the same time? Do the benefits outweigh the possible risks in the future? Is there a higher risk for complications during the surgery? I'm 21 years old, btw.

and my insurance is paying for everything except the anaesthesia. some people said that some dentists just want the money so they advise you to take out all of them, so thats probably not the case here.

Should i have all 4 wisdom teeth taken out?
Do it and get it over with. Request IV sedation (it will cost you, but it is worth it). It will save you problems later and the hassle of having to deal with it again. Wisdom teeth problems DON'T go away, they only get worse. Deal with it now and leave yourself a good 3 or 4 days to recover.
Reply:Just do it all at once. I did and it wasn't so bad. They are no good to you anyway. Good Luck!
Reply:I would say to get a second opinion from another dentist if you are that woried that the dentist just wants your money. And trust me if you need to take them out!! There is nothing worse than tooth/gum pain.
Reply:I wish I had. I had the two lower teeth removed, then five years later had to have the uppers removed. Cost me twice as much money because it required two visits. You don't need your wisdom teeth, and if you are going in for one, you would do well to get them all removed at the same time. Eventually they will cause trouble.
Reply:I had all 4 out at once when I was 17. I would suggest doing it this way. My dentist had told me that my wisdom teeth probably would never bother me, and I wouldn't need them taken out, however the bottom teeth came in partially impacted, and became infected it was HORRIBLE. I had my top ones out at the same time as the bottom ones, there was a possiblity that the top ones would be okay, but I didn't want to risk them getting inflamed like the bottom ones did.

My suggestion would be to have it all done at once and avoid complications in the future. Good luck!!
Reply:42 years ago I had one 100 degrees from vertical. Had to go. Two others were at 90 and 80, That was going to be a problem. Three went. The fourth was fine, and I had it for 30 more years.

I'd say second opinion. The X-rays are yours.

Besides, a good dentist shouldn't be annoyed.
Reply:As I recall, I had one side done at the first visit and the other side done at a separate visit. I just had local anesthesia (like you would get for a filling). The lower ones are a bit more trouble because pressure is exerted on the jaw which attaches in front of your ear.

Because I did not have more than a local, I drove myself home.

Our son had a sedative, so the procedure took longer and I had to take him to and drive him home from the dentist's office.
Reply:yes
Reply:I would probably have all of them taken out. Because they take up so much room in your mouth.
Reply:once mine started going bad, they did it one at a time and after the second one, i just had the rest removed too.
Reply:do it. I had only 2 out and now i need to get other 2 out. I sould have just had them all out at once but the dentist didnt think i needed it. plus if its all paid for why not. The only drawback will be possible pain for a few days and a diet of liquidy/softer foods. But you will have vicodin to help you along.
Reply:Sooner or later you may have to have the other 3 extracted. I would get it all over and done with at one time. Then you have the relief of not having to face it again.
Reply:I would recomend to extract the left molars first, and then the ones on the right at a later appointment, at least I think it could be probably less uncomfortable for you, due to the fact that it may be more difficult to brush with confidence until your gums heal.

Top wisdom teeth extraction.?

I already have both of my bottom wisdom teeth extracted. They were impacted so it was hard for the dentist to get out, and it took a week to heal. I am going to get my top unimpacted wisdom teeth extracted soon. I heard they are a lot easier to extract and heal faster. Is that true?

Top wisdom teeth extraction.?
at the same conditions (I mean both lower and upper teeth are impacted or not), upper teeth are much easier to extract. I am a dentist and i usually prefer to extract the upper ones, and that is because of the consistency of the bones. upper jaw is made of spongy bone but lower jaw is much more dense
Reply:for me it was so i say yes
Reply:I have never heard that. I had the bottom out in the hospital,, the top in the dentists office, and they all healed the same.
Reply:You should go to an oral surgeon rather than a regular dentist. They are better equipped to do this type of work.
Reply:it makes sense that the top, if not impacted, will be easier to remove but I think working on the top is a bit harder for the dentist

my dentist showed me an x ray once and said i hope we never have to removed that tooth - see how the roots are crossed?

I am a chicken - i requested that I be put out - the picture alone scared me cluck cluck cluck
Reply:Usually, yes, they are easier to remove and often times heal faster because your cheeks cover them up.
Reply:Top ones come out very easy. Alot easier than lowers. The top bone is not as dense. You heal in no time.
Reply:95 times out of 100, the uppers are much easier, especially once they are visible in the mouth. Usually, the patient can't believe the tooth is out already when I tell them to bite on the gauze. There is much less incidence of dry socket with uppers, also.

The major risk is a sinus involvement or a curved root that does not show on the x-ray, which is only a 2-dimensional picture of your 3-D tooth. These fall into the 5 out of 100 times there are problems, though, so don't lose any sleep over the possibilities. Just expect that you'll be one of those people who has no trouble at all.
Reply:go a head and even take both of them out. unimpacted upper third molars are very easy to take out. you will not feel anything but pressure. hope that is helpful

Can anyone help - wisdom tooth?

I have a tempremental impacted wisdom tooth, lower left, it has been giving me problems for a couple of years, anyway, last year during pregnancy it flared up into infection 4 times, this year twice, once just after birth and a minor throbbing recently which stopped after I rinsed with salt water.

Anyway, the entrance to my throat at that side has been redder than the other side but with no pain, I recently had a cold and have got a cough which I can't shake off. I noticed my throat feeling odd so I took a look and noticed a dark vein showing up quite obviously along the back of my mouth towards the roof (from where it is red) and the vein comes from beneath the wisdom tooth in the gum. The tooth itself does not hurt, nor does the gum near it. Is it just a vien showing up or has the infection got into my system???

Very scared.

i saw my dentist and she told me the tooth needs surgery, however I had a reaction to general anaesthetic as a kid during dental surgery.

Can anyone help - wisdom tooth?
i hate to say it, but you need to get the surgery asap before things get worse. you will be in very good hands with your dentist, so i would try and get over the anaesthetic fear if you don't want to go through anymore pain with this tooth (this can lead to so many more problems that you can prevent by getting the surgery done now). that's my suggestion anyway.
Reply:You so need to get that taken out, if you have an infection and it has gotten into the blood stream you need to see a dentist righ taway. Pay the money and have the tooth removed, it sounds like it would be worth it. Usually dark red veins are a bad sign.
Reply:Just stop putting it off and go get the work done, your only being a chicken and the rest is just procrastination. You will feel alot better when it's all over. It really doesn't hurt. Good luck.
Reply:I am not a doctor, so I can't tell you what's going on with your situation. I can say that many issues with my mouth/throat cleared up after getting my wisdom teeth (all 5!) removed.

Just let the oral surgeon know about your reaction to the previous medicine. Don't put the surgery off anymore, it was such a big relief when I got mine removed.

Wisdom teeth extraction?

I have to get my wisdom teeth extracted because they are impacted and causing my teeth to shift. I was wondering wha tot expect and if it was possible to be totally sedated with a general anesthsia?

Wisdom teeth extraction?
if you're getting all 4 out -yes ,general sedation would be best.

you will most likely have some swelling, and they will prescribe some pain medication-which you will probably need to take the first day or two after the extractions, along w/ some antibiotics.they will give you a list of instructions-so make sure you follow those.
Reply:they would inject u with anesthisia in your arm and when u wake up you would have numbness in your mouth. you will have to take pain medications because of pain

Is there surgery to extend the lower jaw so all my wisdom teeth can fit in?

My wisdom teeth for my upper jaw are growing fine, but my bottom teeth have impacted horizontally. Is there surgery I can have to extend my jaw line so all my teeth can fit in?

Is there surgery to extend the lower jaw so all my wisdom teeth can fit in?
It's called Orthognathic surgery and it is extremely expensive. It would be better to have the wisdom teeth pulled.
Reply:It would be easier just to have the teeth pulled.
Reply:Yes, it is called "upper cut". Ask any boxer they can help.

Can I start using mouthwash on my wisdom teeth extraction?

Ok, I've been holding out on the Listerine because I didn't want to dry anything out, but it's day 4 since I got 2 of my wisdom teeth extracted (got them out last Friday evening) and since I'm going out today, I don't wanna walk around with The Breath From Hell. I haven't even been able to brush that area properly and it's killing me. The top was just pulled out as it was growing in and the bottom had to be sutuered shut with undissolvable stitches.

So if I cut the Listerine ratio and use mostly water, would it be OK to rinse? Would I be pulling a clot out prematurely or something? The face still hurts a bit because the dentist was particularly rough on my jaw because of my bottom tooth being impacted, but my mouth doesn't feel all that sore... just little twinges.

Can I start using mouthwash on my wisdom teeth extraction?
Aside from the strength, be VERY careful when rinsing with anything at all. If you swish too vigorously you can dislodge the bloodclot and cause "dry socket" which is very painful. Similiarly you should be very careful when using straws or anything else that might pull that clot out.
Reply:yes i used it the same day i had mine pulled did the dentist tell you otherwise?

Pain in jaw several months after wisdom teeth removal?

I had two of my wisdom teeth (top and bottom on the left side) removed in October. They healed fine, but it's January now, and I'm having the same sort of pain I had when the teeth were impacted. There's no swelling, but it almost feels like I have two new teeth coming in. Anyone know if this is normal?

Pain in jaw several months after wisdom teeth removal?
i had all of my wisdom teeth extracted 7 months ago and i didnt experience the same way u are feeling right now. i suggest you go back to your orthodontist for they might have some x-ray to see whats up on the extraction site. good luck! dont worry though!

I am having all 4 wisdom teeth extracted under general anaesthetic, what will this be like?

I have been told it will take 2-3 weeks to recover by my surgeon but from speaking to friends/colleagues who have had wisdom teeth extracted this seems like a long time.

The surgeon explained that she will need to cut the gums, remove bone, take thetop of each tooth off, remove more bone and then extract the roots individually as I have a nerve running close by to some of the teeth, also each tooth is impacted differently (they are all pointing in different directions)

Does anyone have any experience of this procedure?

I am having all 4 wisdom teeth extracted under general anaesthetic, what will this be like?
my friend had her wisom teeth cut out last year and it took her like 2 weeks to recover. When you have them pulled its not as bad...but hey atleast you'll prolly get oxycottin or something good!
Reply:Yes. It's not painfull if you're under a general anaethetic, you'll have to be careful for af while after though so as not to open the gums up again. You're surgeon should pack the gums to stop excessive bleeding. Once fully healed it's a great relief
Reply:your case is obviously more complicated than mine was.i took leave for 3 days because of all the stories i heard.i could have gone back to work the next day.
Reply:I had exactly done what you are going to have done. One good thing though....oxycottin....remember this is your best friend. It took me about 4 weeks for the swelling and pain to go away. Also I had a piece of bone come off and work itself into my upper gum. This worked its way in, until it completely blocked my Silvia duct. Not to bad until....my body decided that it needed to make more Silvia from the other three. (Each corner of your mouth has one) Now a drool in my sleep.....Gross!
Reply:It's certainly not a fun procedure, but it's not painful during the process, and you do get really good painkillers afterwards. So it's not the worst thing ever.

You will feel a lot of tugging and pressure on your head and jaw. And what I thought was the weirdest part, is that you can "hear" the sounds of the teeth breaking and some other noises that are pretty unsettling.

Oh! Your under general anesthetic. I got LOCAL anesthetic. You get to be unconscious for the whole procedure. You lucky duck!

But it isn't too painful, unless there is a weird complication, and those aren't that common they just make better stories so you hear more of them.

It's just one of those things we all have to go through. You'll be much happier after you've had them removed.
Reply:I had the same procedure done when I had my wisdom teeth removed. The procedure itself is a breeze. They knock you out and do the surgery. You may be partially awake when it happens, but you won't feel a thing. You'll have to have someone drive you though -- you'll be in no shape to drive afterward. After the anesthetic wears off, however, it hurts like all get-out. Make sure they give you a scrip for Tylenol 3 or Vicodin or something like that. It takes 3-5 days for the pain to go away completely, but after that you have to be careful and do what they tell you to do to take care of your gums or else you'll get dry sockets. All in all, it does take 2-3 weeks for you to completely recover from the surgery, but that includes the time it takes for the holes in your mouth to heal over completely.

I had this done 30 years ago. At the time I had a two year old toddler, and consultant wouldn't do all at once unless husband (to his chagrin!) had a week off to look after me.

I was off work for 10 days, but I know people who have had 3 weeks. Wusses!

Your mouth will be sore, and it is likely your food will have to be liquidised for a few days. You will be swollen and bruised, and it is not likely you will be able to open your mouth much. You won't be allowed to eat for a while before the op, so when you come round you will be sleepy and hungry. The sooner you can manage to eat, the better you will feel. The hospital made me laugh the next morning when they brought breakfast. Cornflakes! Crispy, crunchy cornflakes. My mouth in that condition! I let them go soggy, and then ate them.

When I came round, it wasn't as painful as I expected. Childbirth was much worse! It gets a bit worse later when the swelling and bruises come up, but they give you painkillers, and it is more of an ache than a sharp pain.

They always tell you that nerve story to protect themselves if anything goes wrong says my dentist. Since my wisdom teeth extraction, I have had several teeth out in hospital at different times (I am a diabetic prone to tooth root infections, and my dentist won't touch me now). You always hear about that nerve.

Good luck with the op, I am sure it will go well, and won't be as bad as you are expecting.
Reply:I had two removed (top and bottom same side) under general anasthaetic. It took about an hour all told and I walked home with a friend helping me-we were students. I think I spent a couple of days in bed then quickly got back to normal. Do listen to your orthodontist though and take things easy if you need to
Reply:Listen to Lala!
Reply:I had all my wisdom teeth extracted seven years ago. I had the same procedure performed on me and I survived. I followed the after care instructions and I was fine the next day. Once the general anesthetic wears off you will feel some pain but you'll be fine especially since you will be given pain medication. My jaw and did hurt and so did the area that was operated on but I lived through it. I even attended many parties and everyone was able to understand me. One thing that I do advise you to do is rinse with salt water like the doctor will advise you because one of my friends did not and she had a problem with food getting stuck in the existing holes that the wisdom teeth remained. I wouldn't worry myself about it too much if I were you. Remember everyone is different! Some people don't suffer and some do. However, others do- swelling or bruising. But I didn't! Also remember to have a positive attitude and all will go well. :) Good Luck!
Reply:I had all 4 of mine removed at once. I should have gotten them removed at 13 but i got them removed at 23. It was really scary to me as I had never even had a filling! I went into the office, they gave me this gas stuff that made me giggle and they gave me an IV that put me to sleep. It felt like 1minute later I woke up. I had gauze packed in both sides of my face and it tasted pretty gross. I sat in a dim room and a little bit later went home with a big bottle of pain pills. I wasn't in much pain that day but I was pretty hungry!! Well in the next few days it got more and more painful. Turns out that only about 2% of people have these weird muscle spasms. I couldn't open my jaw wide enough to stick in a straw! I got more pills, tried to stretch my jaw as much as I could every day and about a month later I was all better. I still have these holes in the back of my mouth though. In the end, I have less migraines and less pressure on my other teeth (the wisdom teeth were growing under the gum pushing foward) which is all well worth it! I would do it again in a minute! Just make sure you have a variety of good soups and lots of pain pills!

Reply:i would think very painful good luck
Reply:i was the same as by white...every1 is different, i had all 4 removed at the same time as i was to much of a coward to get them done seperate lol it did take a couple of weeks till it stopped being sore. you'll be ok :)
