Should i have all 4 wisdom teeth taken out?

My top left wisdom tooth has deep decay so i'm definitely having that one taken out. The oral surgeon then told me that there is a nerve somewhere near my lower jaw and that there is a chance the bottom wisdom teeth could get bigger and touch the nerve. He said thats the nerve for feeling of the chin, jaw, tongue. Also, my lower wisdom teeth are not fully impacted, that is, they are partially stuck inside my gums. And the dentist said that can also cause an infection later on b/c you can't clean that area. But Its only the top left wisdom tooth that is causing me discomfort. So, is it a good idea to have all 4 taken out at the same time? Do the benefits outweigh the possible risks in the future? Is there a higher risk for complications during the surgery? I'm 21 years old, btw.

and my insurance is paying for everything except the anaesthesia. some people said that some dentists just want the money so they advise you to take out all of them, so thats probably not the case here.

Do it and get it over with. Request IV sedation (it will cost you, but it is worth it). It will save you problems later and the hassle of having to deal with it again. Wisdom teeth problems DON'T go away, they only get worse. Deal with it now and leave yourself a good 3 or 4 days to recover.
Reply:Just do it all at once. I did and it wasn't so bad. They are no good to you anyway. Good Luck!
Reply:I would say to get a second opinion from another dentist if you are that woried that the dentist just wants your money. And trust me if you need to take them out!! There is nothing worse than tooth/gum pain.
Reply:I wish I had. I had the two lower teeth removed, then five years later had to have the uppers removed. Cost me twice as much money because it required two visits. You don't need your wisdom teeth, and if you are going in for one, you would do well to get them all removed at the same time. Eventually they will cause trouble.
Reply:I had all 4 out at once when I was 17. I would suggest doing it this way. My dentist had told me that my wisdom teeth probably would never bother me, and I wouldn't need them taken out, however the bottom teeth came in partially impacted, and became infected it was HORRIBLE. I had my top ones out at the same time as the bottom ones, there was a possiblity that the top ones would be okay, but I didn't want to risk them getting inflamed like the bottom ones did.

My suggestion would be to have it all done at once and avoid complications in the future. Good luck!!
Reply:42 years ago I had one 100 degrees from vertical. Had to go. Two others were at 90 and 80, That was going to be a problem. Three went. The fourth was fine, and I had it for 30 more years.

I'd say second opinion. The X-rays are yours.

Besides, a good dentist shouldn't be annoyed.
Reply:As I recall, I had one side done at the first visit and the other side done at a separate visit. I just had local anesthesia (like you would get for a filling). The lower ones are a bit more trouble because pressure is exerted on the jaw which attaches in front of your ear.

Because I did not have more than a local, I drove myself home.

Our son had a sedative, so the procedure took longer and I had to take him to and drive him home from the dentist's office.
Reply:yes
Reply:I would probably have all of them taken out. Because they take up so much room in your mouth.
Reply:once mine started going bad, they did it one at a time and after the second one, i just had the rest removed too.
Reply:do it. I had only 2 out and now i need to get other 2 out. I sould have just had them all out at once but the dentist didnt think i needed it. plus if its all paid for why not. The only drawback will be possible pain for a few days and a diet of liquidy/softer foods. But you will have vicodin to help you along.
Reply:Sooner or later you may have to have the other 3 extracted. I would get it all over and done with at one time. Then you have the relief of not having to face it again.
Reply:I would recomend to extract the left molars first, and then the ones on the right at a later appointment, at least I think it could be probably less uncomfortable for you, due to the fact that it may be more difficult to brush with confidence until your gums heal.
