Anesthesia for wisdom tooth surgery?

I'm going in to have my impacted wisdom teeth taken out soon and I'm going under full anesthesia. I've never been anesthetized before so I'm a little apprehensive about the experience. Can anyone share their experience with general anesthesia (gas or IV)? How does it feel as you're actually going under?

This is the least painful/scary part of surgery. You will most likely have an IV needle stuck in either your hand or on your arm. I'm a total wimp when it comes to pain and that didn't hurt much at all, so don't worry about that. Then the anesthesiologist will start the medicince, which will relax you. You will start to feel kind of out of it and whatever noise is going on will fade away. Then, before you know it, you'll be out. The best part is this-as soon as you fall asleep, you're awake and it's done. To you, it will feel like a split second. I hope this helped. Good luck.
Reply:It will just feel like you're falling asleep, no matter what method is used. Once you're under, you won't feel a thing, it'll be just like taking a nap

My first experience the doc was talking to me, I did not see him put the medicine in my IV. One minute we were talking, the next I was waking up.





The second experience was close to the first. The doctor was asking me questions and the next thing I knew I was waking up and it was all over.
Reply:I have an IV and four widsom teeth extracted. You won't remember it. The doctor will tell you to count backwards from 100 and you will make it to 99 or 98, maybe. You will wake up hours later and the last thing you will remember is the counting. There may be some pain in the jaw(s). Use ice packs on your face, don't try to eat for the first 48 hours or so and drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. Good luck to you.
Reply:Full anesthesia for that? I had gas and novacaine and did not feel a thing but was awake. You feel really..well..stoned out of your mind. With general, I guess you just fall asleep in a drop of a hat.





I cannot stress using ice or you will swell badly. I had all 4 impacted taken out, fell asleep when I got home and when I woke up, my face was 3 times it's normal size.
Reply:You should go to sleep - I had 4 out and didn't and I thought I'd die (this time my insurance didnt pay for me to go to sleep). It just feels like you are falling asleep. If you have ever taken Nyquil or something in that family - you feel super drowsey - wake up and its done. Good Luck!!
Reply:you go under so fast you don`t really feel much, i had that done and stayed awake. anesthesia definitely the way to go.
Reply:i had the same thing done... mine was IV... they asked me what I did the weekend before while they were giving it to me,. I got out "not much of anything" and I was out. I dont remember much, the next thing I knew they were wheeling me out to the car to take me home.(have someone to drive you, I phased in and out for about the next 4 or 5 hours.)
Reply:No worries!! It feels like nothing and you'll wake up remembering nothing. Some people are nauseous after anesthetized, like I am. Just make sure you follow pre-op instructions given by your oral surgeon. Good luck and eat all the Ice Cream they give ya!!
Reply:I've had IV and its like said above..Ive been under 4 times alrdy...I count from 100 backwards and I dont even know what number i make it to..I always try to count fast to see how many numbers i can get down to lol. Its like your out and then your awake not even knowing how much time passed..kindv'e funny..Before I was asking the doctor..ARE YOU GONNA START? And he looked at me and laughed and said we're finished!!! It's cake don't be scared. Just make sure you don't lie about your weight cause thats how the calculate the dosage to knock ya **** out. Reply:It is a pleasant experience not to be feared. Actually, the feeling created by the anesthetic is most pleasant like floating. It is a feeling narcotic addicts crave. You may get some Demorol and a sedative before the general is given.
Reply:its a snap, first time is always a bit nerve wracking but you'll do fine. Remember to be completely honest about any OTC pills(or other stuff) consumed in the past 48 hrs they need to know that stuff.. I had an IV and was out like a light.


When I had mine out, they gave me an antivomiting med before + after + I never even lost my appetite! Although I couldn't eat solid foods for 4 days. They told me not to eat dairy products(I'm not sure why).. In a week I was back to eating steak + everything else.
