Wisdom Teeth Question?

I have a question. I don't know much about this topic so please bear with me. I had a consultation with an oral surgeon who told me my wisdom teeth needed to come out (after an x-ray and looking in my mouth). He mentioned nothing of them being impacted. However, I look in the mirror and don't actually see them. This means they haven't come in, I guess? Do they take your wisdom teeth out even though they haven't come in? The oral surgeon told me that they have to come out because they will eventually push on my other teeth. However, I don't see them in my mouth! So, if someone could tell me if they take them out if they haven't come in, that would be great. I keep thinking he made a mistake - but then again, i'm not educated in the field of dentistry! :) Thank you for your help!

Wisdom Teeth Question?
i just had my wisdom teeth removed about 8 months ago and they were completely impacted. they take them out surgically while you're asleep. so to answer your question, yes, they can take them out without them being in yet.
Reply:A lot of times, they will suggest that you get your wisdom teeth out even if they haven't come in to avoid future problems. Although you definitely have a choice in the matter. It will be more expensive and take more time to heal if they try to take out your wisdom teeth that have not erupted. In my opinion you should not do it until they have come out at least, or even wait until they give you trouble (because they might not give you trouble). The only way I would say that you should have them out is if you are having braces put on or other dental work, or if they took x-rays that show that the wisdom teeth will come in crooked.
Reply:That's actually what impacted means; there is not enough room in your mouth for your teeth to come in. That is why he had to xray your mouth so he could see them below the gum. If he removes them now, it will save you a great deal of pain in the future, and they will have to come out anyway.
Reply:I don't know about not being able to see them, maybe that's the reason for the x-ray. But I do know people that have waited too long to have them taken out and they pushed and cracked the teeth around them. And my experience was a terrible infection that made me look like my jaw gained ten pounds. So I wouldn't wait on it, I'd take his advice and get them out as soon as possible.
Reply:%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;MOST important---no matter what the dentist tells you----only have one side of your mouth done at one sitting (top and bottom wisdom teeth on the left side, for example).

Otherwise, it is very risky for your health---some people have died from the shock to their system, because their blood couldn't clot properly, or from toxic shock, etc. DO NOT have all 4 wisdom teeth pulled at once. Follow the dentist's instructions, go home immediately from the teeth-pulling, and lay down and rest, and let your body heal completely each time. Some people's systems are very sensitive to teeth-pulling--don't take any chances.

It depends on your age, but those darned wisdom teeth will come in, and it's not a pretty picture, either.

This is one of those "preventive" measures you want to plan----you definitely do NOT want your wisdom teeth to "erupt" when you are busy doing something else, like on a trip to Europe, or in the miliary in basic training, or getting married, or any time-consuming life-event that you would have to interrupt to get them taken out and recover.....for example, they might start erupting when you are in the last month of a college semester, and cramming for finals----NOT a time you want to be sick.
Reply:I would love to know your age......

Most people these days don't have enough room for their wisdom teeth. It's an evolution thing. The sooner you get them out, the faster and easier it will be. If you are young (16ish), the roots on these teeth will not have formed completely making the removal easier, and the risks lower. The person who suggested not getting all 4 done at the same time is giving you some silly advice. I have never heard of someone dying, and I've been at this for over 15 years. If you are getting put to sleep, the risks of getting put out twice far out way the risks of bleeding to death or your system going into shock. You may choose to do one side at time for comfort eating or financial reasons. The choice is your, but don't wait until you have problems.
