How long after a wisdom tooth removal should the blood clot dissolve?

I had a non-impacted lower wisdom tooth removed yesterday afternoon and was just wondering how soon (or long) the blood clot should dissolve.

How long after a wisdom tooth removal should the blood clot dissolve?

Reply:OK, here's the answer w/ the "correct" identity...lol

Your question probably isn't really how long 'til it dissolves, so much as it is How long 'til the gums grow OVER it!

Repeat after me: "The blood clot is my friend!" :) Seriously, that's why all the instructions about not smoking or sucking through a straw or hot food/drink....

Usually, if you take care and follow instructions, the clot will heal over entirely in a week or two. Then the bone will fill in underneath. it should only be "vulnerable" (ie, prone to coming out w/ suction or hot or no good reason at all!) for 48 hrs. Good luck, and keep up w/ salt water rinsing!
