Why do I have a bad taste in my mouth after getting my wisdom teeth out?

I had my two bottom wisdom teeth out on Monday. They were VERY impacted, so part of the bone was also removed. I've been feeling a lot better the last two days, but I'm getting this really bad taste in my mouth coming from the socket (sour and salty).

Did this happen to anyone else?

When will it go away?

Actually they were drilled out of the bone, but this will apply to you as well, and hopefully help you. So keep reading.

Some soreness is to be expected for several days to a week or so. It just depends on the condition of the teeth that were extracted. Some people feel better the first day if the teeth were mobile and had been hurting from the movement. Some may have had surgery to remove them from the bone and take longer to heal. So here is some standard advice for extractions. To be safest and relieve any doubt that you may have, just call your dentist or surgeon, they will be happy to help you.

Here are some tips: Try to rinse 3-4 times a day with really warm salt water. Use care when brushing so you don't brush that area. Also with these being back teeth, you need to exercise your jaw. Try stretching your mouth open and close over and over, getting a little wider each time but don't force yourself. This really helps with the pain and soreness you may experience from holding your mouth open during the extractions and their removal from the surrounding bone. Avoid hard or crunchy food for a week or so until you can tell the tissue is healed over.

Now sometimes it's not normal to have pain. I can't look to see, and don't know how difficult the extractions were, so I'm just going on what you have described. But occasionally the tissue becomes infected or it doesn't clot over and develops a dry socket. You can usually tell this if it becomes painful, swollen, fowl smell and taste in your mouth. If this is the case you will need to go back to the Dentist to have the area cleaned out and packed off. He will also place you on antibiotics, pain med's and advise you to take Advil or Motrin.

Hope I've been of some help here, good luck!
Reply:You still have blood coming out and that give a bad odor.Keep rinsing with antiseptic
Reply:Probably from the blood, keep rinsing with warm salt water so u don't get a dry socket (infection) cause those hurt. In a few days it will go away
Reply:It is blood. Put a wet black teabag on the socket it will help stop the bleeding. Do this every time you taste the blood. The tea helps form a good clot. Rest up!
Reply:Yes, it happened to me, it's just the taste of blood. Sour and salty.

Keep your tongue outta it, you'll get dry socket.
Reply:Blood it's come form .
Reply:It's a bacteria that is collecting down in the socket. You need to rinse with salt water. You need to flush that socket out because what has happened is that you have food trapped in there. You should be aware that it will make your breath smell REALLY BAD also. You may not be able to smell it but trust me...others can.
