Question about wisdom teeth removal and insurance?

I am supposed to get my wisdom teeth removed. All four and they are all impacted. The cost would be about $2200. My insurance wants me to cough up $820. It seems like a bit to me and I am very scared about getting all four out at the same time. I have to get the procedure approved by my insurance first. I now only want to remove the bottom two wisdom teeth. Does anyone know how long it takes for the insurance to approve it? Is it a good idea to only get two removed at a time? The left bottom wisdom tooth is killing me.

Question about wisdom teeth removal and insurance?
If the teeth are BONY impactions, your MEDICAL insurance will cover the cost when done by an oral surgeon, maybe in full. If they are simple impactions, then it goes through your dental insurance, in which case they are not covered as much and a balance would be due.

Pre-estimates are done so the patient will know their out-of-pocket expenses up front so there's no 'surprise' when the bill comes.

Check with your dental office and ask about the impactions...and ask how the pre-est was submitted. Some offices just want their money for the services rendered and that's that... while others take the time to work with their patients to the fullest extent and help to maximize their healthcare benefits.

Oh, and I agree with the suggestion to have all four of them removed at the same time.

Good Luck!

Reply:I GOT 3 REMOVED IN CANADA 4 FREE UNDER WELFER
Reply:Only a few days, and get them done at the same time i got my 2 bottoms removed also because the left one was killing me, then shortly after the top right was bothering me. $820 is alot to pay for all 4, i payed $150 for the bottom 2 one was impacted
Reply:from experience, getting all four of them out at the same time is sooo much easier. i was miserable after i got mine out, i can't imagine getting it done twice! cough up the money and get it done.
Reply:I don't know where you live or what is included for $2200. Will you be put under general anesthetic? The out-of-pocket is about the full fee from a general dentist in most places.

If you're going to get them out, do all at one time. You go through the pain, healing, and expense only once instead of two or more times. Why take more time off work or school? Get it over with!
Reply:Your dentist or oral surgeon's office should be able to get the billing figured out for you. Get two teeth done one year and two the next. That should lower the cost.
Reply:Not sure how long it will take for the insurance to approve it. But you really want to make sure that you get done what needs to be done while you do have insurance. Don't worry, the dentist will not do 4 at a time if it is not safe. Have you gotten a 2nd estimate from another dentist on what the cost would be? Sometimes there can be quite a big difference.
Reply:i don't know! u can go on yor dental insrance website and and find out the paticulars on how claims are handled.

btw, my mom got all 4 wisdom teeth taken out at the same time and she said it was all worth it!! she was home for a few days and back to work!!!
Reply:I had one removed..and about 8 years later the others and that price sounds high as hell...get a second opinion, Docs now want all the money they can get.
Reply:This is what i did. I have the credit card called, care credit. It's a card only use for you health. Most doctors take it and most dont. I dont have insurance so this was my only hope. I pay monthly with no interest. Go to carecredit.org . I live in florida so im not to sure if this card can be used nationwide. I got all of my 4 wisdom teeth removed on month and i was put to sleep. It's better when your sleeping, cuz i heard its hell when your awake lol. I wasn't so sure if i wanted only 2 removed and then the others later. But get them all removed at once, believe meeeee, I never want to go thru this crap again. It's almost a week and i've been eatin like a rabbit it seems lol. Im so happy that i went with all 4 removed. Mines cost about 1600 and thats with no insurance. I live in florida
Reply:Most of the time you can ask the receptionist at the oral surgeon's office or dentist's office (whoever is going to do the extractions) to submit a predetermination to your insurance company. This can either be e-filed (electronically filed) or sometimes has to be mailed to your insurance co. Depending on how fast your insurance responds (can be as little as a few days up to 4-6 weeks). If I were you, and didn't want all 4 taken out at one time, I would get the left side done first, (upper and lower) and then get the right side done. To tell you the truth though, it is probably best done all at one time because you may not want to go through it twice. Everyone is different. Some people have no problems and no pain and some people have everything go wrong with dry sockets and lots of pain.
