The numbness is in my tongue, chin and lower lip. And there is no pain even though it's been 5 hours and i haven't taken any pain killers. I had a general. Is this normal?
I had 4 wisdom teeth out today, lower 2 were impacted. 5 hours later i have total numbness?
Yeah, that's normal. Consider yourself lucky! It'll hurt like hell tomorrow. If you don't regain feeling after about 12 hours you better call the Dr. He might have severed a nerve.
Reply:Thank God! It is still numb. Wow, what an operation. No pain killers..be glad you are still numb.
Reply:Those lower wisdom teeth were attached to the inferior alveolar branch and you describe its distribution perfectly. The nerve has reduced function temporarily. Ge glad. It will come back. How long varies greatly.
Reply:You should have been warned of this possibility before treatment. Most people regain full feeling, but it may take a few months. At least you won't feel any pain while it heals!
Reply:Sounds normal. Depends on some ppl how long they're numb for. I had 2 impacted, 2 fully in, all taken out by general anesthesia. The numbing wore off in about a hour or two and then the pain hit hard for me. Try to take the meds before it wears off . I didn't and was in so much pain. But the meds work really well. Good luck! =)
Reply:When I had mine out, all four, 2 impacted, I had a general, they put in a long acting local before they bring you round to give you a chance to recover from the general before the pain hits.
It took 2 days before I got all the feeling back in my mouth and tongue.
Also they might have aggravated one of the nerves, but usually the feeling comes back quite quick.
If it is not back in a week go and see your dentist as they might have hit one of the nerves. But for now just be thankful you are not in pain.
Hop you feel better soon.
