my wisdom teeth are impacted and i need to have them removed, will i have to take any time off of work?
How long does it take to recover from getting your wisdom teeth surgically removed?
First off, you should always ask your dentist first.
However, here's what advice I can give :) I just had one of my wisdom teeth pulled last Friday. It didn't really bother me and I resumed most normal activity, just no streneous excercise or lifting or anything. If your dentist is going to put you under to remove them, you probably won't be able to go back to work that do. As for my tooth, I just got shot with novacaine, then had it removed. The hole hasn't healed completely, but it isn't painful or anything.
GOOD LUCK!!! I know it isn't any fun :( but I hope it goes great for you!
Reply:You're in a bit of pain and very swollen for a couple of days. The meds might make you dizzy and tired. You should plan on recovering at home for 3-5 days.
Reply:I had mine removed, and surprisingly it dosnt take that long. 2-3 weeks. Depending on if they are upper or lower. The upper teeth have shorter recovery time because they drain instead of pooling. I had mine removed and then came into work that same day. But Im a workaholic too. Id take two days off. You'll probably get a good 'ol perscription for some vicodin too:)
Reply:I had impacted wisdom teeth and I was eating pizza that night (chewing with my front teeth) but I think it depends on how skilled your doctor is cause I didn't have any bruising or swelling either.
Reply:I was out of work for only 2 or 3 days I think. But then I got what I think they call "a dry socket" which is like an infection in the hole where your tooth was. Not fun, but after a shot of antibotics in my gum I was fine.
Reply:I think it depends on the person. Some people are fine the next day other people take about a week. It took me about a week to recover, I had it done during spring break and was still swollen when school started. I just had other oral surgery to remove a cuspid that didn't come out last friday and he said it would only take a couple days to recover but I barely feel better today. But that might just be me. Ask your oral surgeon and just plan on taking off the maximum amount of days they say.
Reply:I made the huge mistake of not taking time off work. I would give yourself 4 days to recover. If you have them out on Friday, take the following Monday and Tuesday off. I was in pain for 3 weeks, but the first 4 or 5 days were the worst. I have to talk a lot at work - it was awful.
Just a tip- make sure you take your pain medication as they tell you to (every 4 or 6 hours or whatever). I tired not to...if you wait until you are in really bad pain before you take it, it won't work.
Good luck
Reply:I had all 4 of mine pulled the same day 10 years ago now , when i was 19. It didn't take me long to recover at all. One hour after i had a milkshake lol and 2 hrs later we went out to eat for my birthday. I had a doctors note not to return back to work for 3 days but i was completely fine. Good luck to ya!!! Oh it only took them like 20 minutes to pull all 4 after they had given me the meds to numb them.
