I am 12 years old and just got braces on about a month ago. The dentist said that I have to get all 4 wisdom teeth out. One of them I think is impacted (whatever that means?) The oral surgeon said that they were going to give me an IV (Intravenous) and I get nervous easily by needles. Will the I.V. put me asleep or just numb the pain? If I am awake, how does it feel? Any tips what to do? Please help! I am very very nervous. Thanx!
I am going to get all of my wisdom teeth pulled real soon. Please Help!!!?
the oral surgeon will make sure you don't feel anything during the procedure. i had all 4 wisdom teeth removed with only novacaine and it wasn't any worse than having fillings done. it will hurt a lot more when you get home, after the procedure is done.
Reply:the iv will make you not remember any thing. i had mine a out a couple of weeks ago and i didnt feel anything in the chair and i cant remeber anything about it. the only thing you will feel is the needle going to your arm and then your out but your not asleep
Reply:They(most dentists i've been to) put like a jelly on your gums to try to numb them before they give you the shots. Then they'll give you like 3 shots so you'll feel them doing it but you don't feel the pain. After they pull out the teeth they give you like some cotton in case it bleeds(it doesn't bleed a lot just some spotting) and some medicine to help you. You already had braces...it cant be that bad
Reply:iv sedation is just that. it sedates you. like a calming effect. they will also give you novicane in your mouth to numb you.
impacted means that the teeth are growing in the jaw bone and they will have to be cut out. it will be painfull for a couple of days but not as painful as they will be if you dont get them out.
Reply:I've had 8 teeth pulled and Im 12
(I just got braces a week ago)
i dont know what's happening to you,
but with me they used a needle to numb my teeth
and then pulled it out
the needle hurt the most
and then it will bleed for quite some time
Reply:impacted means it is covered either by tissue or by bone and will not be able to erupt
the IV will put you to sleep, no worries
Reply:If they are going to give you an IV they will probably put you to sleep. Its really no big deal. I had all four of mine pulled in a dentist office with just Novocaine. One tooth impacted means part of your gums are covering part of it and the gum will have to be cut away which is why they will probably put you to sleep. Don't worry about it. You may be sore for a few days and have to eat soft food but everything will be OK
Reply:impacted mean under gum it is still under the gum. with the iv you will not remember anything ask the oral surg. for some meds to help you sleep the night before. pain is not to bad good luck
Reply:The night b4 your surgery, get some disposable rubber gloves, fill half way with water, tied off open end. Put it on a rolled up wash cloth and freeze it. Use it after your surgery to reduce swelling. It will conform to your cheeks. Make sure that your prescription are filled for pain meds and have it ready. Have your mother buy some soft foods like pudding, soup, and jello to eat. Don't take Aspirin 3 days b4 your surgery because they cause you to bleed more and tell your doctor what kind of meds you are taking.
The night b4 surgery, it's important that you do not eat or drink anything after midnight. Wear comfortable clothes like sweats and no jewelery. They will start an IV to sedate you and b4 you know it, you will be ready to go home. They will pack your incision with gauze to stop any further bleeding. You should be fine in a day or so. Good luck. Been there, done that.
Reply:Been there done that just 3 days ago and i'm 13 so i'm near your age. your in luck =)
THE I.V. needle i won't like hurts a bit like somone's pincing you but it's fast and just look away don't worry. THey put you to sleep by telling you to breath through a tube its relaxing actually and they also numb the mouth. When you wake up you feel a bit dizzy nothing bad, it's a bit different from normally waking up. The numbing last for a VERY long time and they give you VERY strong painkillers but your cheeks will be swollen for a while and eating will be hard. Good news is we get to miss school =D. Salt water rinse is good too. your wounds will hurt too but it wont' hurt as much as adults, the younger the patient less the discomfort.
Good luck.
