Can Wisdom Teeth Cause Nerve Damage?

I currently have my wisdom teeth in, and i know that they are pretty badly impacted. I was just wondering if let alone that it could cause potential problems regarding nerve/muscle damage? I just feel as if one side of my mouth might be getting less responsive than the other.

Can Wisdom Teeth Cause Nerve Damage?
Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. And the answer is YES, wisdom teeth can cause all sorts of problems. The reason is the roots are too close to the mandibular nerve and can wrap around and cause serious issues. The best is to find a great Oral Surgeon that take them out. You can not wait on this. The teeth continue to grow in the jaw bone and have no room so they go where they can. This can become very painful and cause nerve damage in the long run.

Ideally get a X-ray to see the scope of the problem and discuss the best course of treatment. We try to take them out before it gets to this point, but have retrieved them even when they were at their worse. The nerve damage can heal and the muscle will come back, but this is not a wait and see. Do this now. The longer you wait, the worse it can get and you don't want that down side. if you have any other questions, please ask. M
Reply:It is not likely that the wisdom teeth would be causing a loss in motor or sensory nerves. They sure can jimmy up the molars they are bashing into, tho.

Ironically, if a wisdom tooth is too close to the mandibular nerve, the removal of the teeth can cause nerve damage. The oral surgeon may decline to remove such teeth, letting a 'sleeping dog lie' as it were.
