I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted 10 days ago. They all were impacted. As days went by, I seemed to be feeling better. The pain eased however i still felt a little sore. But, within the last few days I have noticed a nasty/bad taste in my mouth and sometimes I even think I feel something oozing? Im not sure. Along with the taste, I noticed a horrible oder to the taste and I was just wondering if this was normal. Would there be any connection to the fact that I still cant open my mouth fully without the top right part of my mouth hurting. Im not sure how to describe it but when I open my mouth, it hurts, like something is pulling..
I was just wondering if this was normal and what is happening??
Wisdom Teeth Extraction?
Did you return for your 1 week post-op appointment? Your surgeon may have placed a dressing into your lower sockets to help prevent dry sockets, and they need to be removed.
If you've already had your follow-up, the odor and taste could be coming from food being trapped in those sockets, you should have been given an irrigating syringe to help clean them out after meals. Nuts, seed, popcorn and raw broccoli can get stuck in there and won't dissolve, potentially causing an infection.
Even when everything is healing fine you can still have stiff jaw muscles, and the "pulling" sensation could just be part of normal tissue healing. Please do see your oral surgeon to make sure everything is okay.
Reply:happened to my mom last year, it turns out the dentist left a little piece of gauze and it became infected. you should talk to your dentist to check for infections
Reply:I had 3 of my wisdom teeth pulled at the same time and had nothing like what you're describing. I would call the dentist and set up an appointment, let him check again.
Reply:Definitely go back to your dentist or oral surgeon and have that checked out.
And your mouth may feel stiff for a while longer. I had all 4 of my teeth out a little over 2 weeks ago and still feel a little stiffness in the back when I try to open my mouth and such. Only way to ease the stiffness is to continue to "exercise" your mouth, slowly opening your mouth so the muscles stretches out a bit and loosens up. You don't want a stiff mouth forever.
