Wisdom teeth!?

im getting an impacted wisdom rooth removed in a few weeks and im really scared...about anesthesia (sp?) and pain afterwards and other stuff. anyone have experience with getting wisdom teeth removed that they want to share?

Wisdom teeth!?
Do not be scared. I had four taken out and the dentist gave me good drugs so I didn't even know what was going on. It was over before I knew it and I wasn't even sore. If your tooth is impacted it needs to come out before it causes you a lot of pain. Good luck!
Reply:I had all 4 removed,,,, you sit down pass out and then you wake up.... The anesthesia wears off in 2-3 hours,, so goto sleep when you get home,,, you will be fine in three days..
Reply:You'll be fine. Calm down a little hon'. Don't need to get all worked up. Had my impacted wisdom teeth our 20 yrs. ago. Just make sure someone goes with you as you will not be able to drive home afterwards with the anesthesia Yes you will be in pain, but the Vicodin will help along with that. Get lost of rest. Take care hon' and good luck.
Reply:I got impacted mandibular wisdoms and I had those taken out.. It was done by oral surgery residents at a hospital where I was doing my clinical rotations while I was in dental school.

It was done with just local block anesthesia (I was not put to sleep), and it took 2 hours because I got crooked roots. I didn't feel any pain while it was done. It took 4 carpules of Lidocaine total.

I did get swelling and some soreness for a few days after the extractions because some bone had been drilled away to access the jammed wisdoms, but that's easy to manage (the residents gave me an Rx of Penicillin VK and Tylenol w/ codeine #3). I was fine after 3 days or so.

Despite being scared to death before the procedure, my experience turned out to be no big deal.

These days I'm on the other side of the chair doing the extractions.. No complaints from my patients so far. :-)
Reply:i've always been highly scared of going to the dentist (i had a horrible dentist as a child). so when i got mine takin out a few months ago i was freaking out bad. i went with the local because thats what my insurance would pay for. the assistant came in an gave me this stuff to numb my mouth its a really powerful oralgel (sp) they let it stay in there for 5 min. her and the oral surgeon came into the room he gave me 4 shots in the mouth and waited 10 min. to make sure i wouldnt feel anything. he had the tooth out in a matter of minutes i didnt feel anything he gave me some pain medication for when the shots wore off, it stopped hurting in a day. i hope my story helps you just make sure that when they do go to pull the tooth out your mouth is completely numb the dentist i had as a child wouldnt.
